CeraVe Moisturizing Cream Review – I Had High Hopes

Cerave Moisturising Cream Review

I got Cerave Moisturizing Cream – Baume Hydrant in a smaller variant because even though Cerave is hyped and the most recommended Brand for sensitive skin, not everything works for my skin.

The reason is that I have super sensitive skin with a history of eczema and my skin allergies are easily triggered due to dust and pollution. Even the products that work for the majority of people, end up not working for me.

If you are someone with extreme skin sensitivity and always dealing with redness and allergic dryness, you are on the right page and I hope my review of Cerave moisturizing cream for the face will help in one way or another. Let us get into the details.

My Experience with Cerave Moisturizing Cream

My Skin Type: Sensitive and acne-prone skin. Dry due to eczema and allergic flare-ups.

As usual, I started with the moisturizer right after my face wash and the first thing I noticed was the texture and consistency. It has a soft yet thick kind of texture with a glazed appearance to it. I took a decent amount onto my palm and started massaging my face with the moisturizer in gentle motions.

I like the non-sticky texture

It no doubt, immediately provided a relief to dryness and resulted in soft and moisturized skin. The texture was easy to massage and it did not leave any heaviness or stickiness behind. Next, I followed up with my sunscreen and my skin looked pretty great – fresh, clean, and hydrated.

Cerave Moisturizer

I immediately started comparing my Cerave moisturizing cream with my all-time favorite Cetaphil Moisturising Cream. The Cerave moisturizing cream is thick but smooth in consistency whereas the Cetaphil moisturizing cream is straight-up thick in texture and consistency.

Not moisturizing enough

Moving on further, within an hour of application. I started feeling the dryness again and felt like I needed to reapply my moisturizer again. I went ahead and applied a second layer of Cerave moisturizing cream.

Shortly after hours, my skin felt dry again. I realized the nourishing properties weren’t enough for me. I picked up my Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream again and was sorted for the day.

Even though I felt the Cerave cream was not providing me enough moisturization, I still wanted to experience it and see how it went in the long run.

Resulted in breakouts

Shortly, after a few days, I started experiencing a few breakouts. I was not expecting this at all! Definitely, not from Cerave. Because my face started showing large amounts of clogged pores and breakouts, I had no option but to stop using the cream and fortunately, my skin got back to normal.

I was not ready to accept the fact that I got breakouts from Cerave and not only it did not work for me, but it wasn’t enough for the dryness.

I still wanted to see how it worked for my mother. She has dry skin without skin sensitivity. Her dryness is because of her dry skin whereas my dryness is because of allergies and flare-ups so I assumed Cerave might work differently for her.

After a few uses, she mentioned that her skin felt dry again shortly after application. She did not experience any breakouts but the cream was not enough for our dry skin.

I looked up online at Nykaa and scrolled through reviews and a lot of people mentioned that Cerave moisturizing cream was not enough for their dry skin, and only a few experienced irritation.

Cerave is no doubt the most trusted Brand when it comes to sensitive skin and even my dermatologist recommended this to me but unfortunately, it did not work for me. One of the reasons I can think of is the ingredient Hyaluronic Acid which from my experience always breaks me out. Although I can not pinpoint why exactly it did not work for me that is one of the reasons I can think of.

I switched back to Cetaphil Cream

Even if the Cerave cream would have worked fine, it still was not enough to hydrate the dry skin. I stopped using this one and went back to my Cetaphil cream because that not only works on the dryness but actually heals the dry patches, rashes, and redness. Cetaphil is perfect for problematic skin.

I now use Cerave cream on my hands simply to finish the product and I think it is doing fine on my body as compared to my face.

Is CeraVe Moisturising Cream good for the face?

From my experience, if you have sensitive skin and often end up with breakouts and redness, it is better to go for Cetaphil than Cerave. It works fine for non-sensitive skin but still couldn’t provide enough moisturization.

Cerave Moisturizer Review: Final Thoughts

Unfortunately, Cerave moisturizing cream for the face did not work for my dry-sensitive skin. The moisturising properties were not enough to keep my skin hydrated and my skin felt dry again shortly after application. It also ended up giving me breakouts for some reason. I went back to my Cetaphil Moisturising Cream.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Soft Texture

Cons

  • Not enough moisturizing
  • Resulted in breakouts
  • Not best for allergic dryness
