8 Easy Self-Care Ideas for Burnout and Low-Energy Days

Some days just feel heavier than others. And most of the time, I don’t even know the reason. I have that feeling a lot. Of course, I immediately go like “Krishna, I am not feeling right and I don’t know why” but I can’t deny the fact that this does happens. Not in a dramatic way, just in that quiet, exhausting way where even small things feel like a task. The thing is, all that advice about bubble baths and face masks? Sometimes it just feels like more work when you’re already running on empty.
What I’ve learned is that the most comforting things aren’t always the ones everyone talks about. They’re the small things that actually fit into your life right now, exactly as it is. The things that don’t require you to be anyone other than who you are in this moment. 🎀
Signs You’re Emotionally or Mentally Drained
Although every single of us know when we are drained emotionally but still because we are in this together, let’s discuss what actually happens.
- Simple decisions might feel overwhelming.
- The thought of your usual routine might make you want to cry.
- Maybe you’re more irritable than usual, or you find yourself staring at your phone without actually seeing anything.
- Sometimes it shows up as physical exhaustion even when you’ve slept, or as this heavy feeling in your chest that won’t quite lift.
It’s really, really awesome if you don’t relate to this but if you do, I know how you are feeling. 🎀
8 Low-effort Self Care Ideas to recover from Burnout
1. Let Kirtans and Bhajans Carry You When You’re Too Tired to Think
When I’m overwhelmed and words feel too hard, I put on kirtans. Devotional music reaches a part of you that regular music doesn’t touch.
The repetition of Krishna’s name, the way the melody carries you without asking anything back, it’s like being wrapped in something gentle. You can lie on your bed, close your eyes, and just let those voices wash over you. YouTube is full of that. ✨
I ain’t talking about being religious or spiritual in some perfect way. I am saying letting yourself be carried by something bigger when you’re too tired to carry yourself.
2. Make Burgers or Pancakes Together
I love having different-different meals with my family. Sometimes, I would just order burger-making supplies. Buns, potato patties, cheese slices, lettuce, tomatoes, all the sauces.
Then we all just dive in. Someone toasts buns, someone handles patties, someone’s on sauce duty. You’re together, you’re creating something, but there’s no pressure to be “on” because your hands are busy and there’s a task.
Plus you end up with warm, homemade burgers that taste so much better than takeout. The same works with pancakes using readymade batter on a Sunday morning. You’re not trying to be a chef, you’re just flipping pancakes together while someone else sets the table.
3. Talk to the Higher Self without holding any emotion back
Forget everything you’ve heard about meditation being this thing where you empty your mind. That never worked for me.
My Personal Favourites
What does work, sitting somewhere quiet and actually talking to the divine.
Out loud or in your head, doesn’t matter.
I talk to Krishna like I’m talking to someone who already knows everything anyway, so there’s no point pretending. “I’m tired. I don’t know what to do about this situation. Please guide me. Show me what I can’t see.”
Some days I’ll just repeat “Hare Krishna” softly, letting the rhythm of it settle something inside me. It’s different than distraction, it’s like remembering you’re not navigating all of this by yourself. And, it actually helps me feel better. 🎀

4. Film Your Lipsticks and Lip Balms in Afternoon Light for No Reason
This one surprised me with how much it helps. When everything feels too big, I zoom in on something very small.
I film some close-up clips of lipsticks and lip balms on my phone, really zoomed in, noticing the shimmer and color and texture. And then I post them as shorts or reels without overthinking it, sometimes they just stay in my camera roll.
Either way, the act of noticing something beautiful and small, of creating something gentle, shifts something. This is not an attempt to go viral or be an influencer, you’re just documenting textures and light because they’re pretty and filming them feels meditative.
5. The Morning-Afternoon Sunlight Spot
Okay, I know everyone talks about sunlight, but this is the truth. Sunlight fix a lot of things and it is not out there for the sake of light. Our bodies need sunlight.
Most of the health and mind issues that are surfacing lately? Not having enough sunlight exposure is the real reason behind it.
The way sunlight enters through a window feels different than any other kind of warmth, the way it makes everything look softer. I’ll sit in my sunlight spot and do nothing, or flip through old photos on my phone, or watch the dust particles float. It’s permission to just exist for fifteen minutes without purpose.

6. Go Candle Shopping or Just Watch One Burn
I love wandering through a store and smell candles. It feels like the easiest form of self-care. You’re not buying a whole new wardrobe or committing to anything big—you’re just testing scents, reading the little labels, finding one that makes you feel something.
Vanilla, sandalwood, lavender, whatever calls to you.
And then when you get home, light it.
Sit somewhere comfortable and just watch the flame. The way it flickers and moves, the warmth of the glow, how the wax slowly melts into itself. It’s mesmerizing in the gentlest way, and watching fire do its thing has this ancient, grounding quality that phones and screens will never have.
7. Music That Sounds Like Safety
I’m not talking about making a perfect playlist. I mean putting on one specific song that makes your shoulders drop. For me, some days it’s bhajans, other days it’s just a random song that I remember, sometimes it’s just one acoustic song on repeat for an hour.
The kind of music that doesn’t demand anything from you, that feels like coming home. You can lie on your floor and let it play, or have it on while you stare out the window.
I am sure most of us can feel this vibe, right? 🎀
8. Send a Voice Note to Your Group Chat or Just Be Alone Without Guilt
Connection feels and looks different depending on what you need. If you’re someone who feels better with people around you, even distantly, send a voice note to your group chat. Not about anything important, just “hi, having a weird day, love you guys” or rambling about something small that happened.
You might feel comfortable hearing your own voice say words out loud that makes things feel more manageable, and your people responding with their own voice notes back creates this little thread of connection without the pressure of a phone call or making plans.
But if you’re someone who recharges alone? Give yourself full permission to just be by yourself without feeling guilty about it.
Turn off your phone notifications, don’t respond to anyone, exist in your own space without explanation. Being alone isn’t the same as being lonely, and sometimes the most healing thing is letting yourself have silence and solitude without apologizing for it.
