Which Sunscreen is Best for Oily Acne-Prone Skin? (Answered)

This is the question which is often asked by people to ChatGPT or to even Google. In this article, I’ll share my personal recommendation for the sunscreen for oily and acne-prone skin?
Why? Because I have sensitive and acne-prone skin too! And, depending on the season, my skin swings from oily to dry.
I have tried so many sunscreens in the past but each has their pros and cons, and not every time they worked for my sensitive skin. There are still so many sunscreens I need to explore and try for me and you. 🥹
Best Sunscreen for Oily and Acne-Prone Skin (Tried and Tested)
✨ Brinton UV Doux SPF50+++ (Blue Light)
My Opinion: I love that sunscreen and it works so good for my sensitive skin. I recommended it to so many people and had always received a positive feedback. I only tried the blue light variant but the other one is equally great too. The texture is silicone-matte without being too dry or greasy, no heavy feeling, dullness, or breakouts.
Why UV Doux?
This is the only sunscreen in a budget that worked for my extremely sensitive, oily, and acne-prone skin. I have a history of eczema so if anything can work for my sensitive skin, I feel it definitely can work for you too.
- The texture is velvet-matte. It is not at all greasy or oily and neither too matte.
- My skin doesn’t feel heavy or dry upon the application.
- It did not resulted in any dullness.
- I did face any allergies, acne, or any breakouts with UV Doux sunscreen.
- It offers SPF50 PA+++ and prevented my skin from heat rashes.
- And, it’s water resistant too

Is UV Doux Sunscreen Chemical or Physical?
It is a hybrid sunscreen. Meaning, it has a mix of physical (mineral) and chemical (organic) filters to protect your skin.
Physical (Mineral) Filters in UV Doux Sunscreen
- Titanium Dioxide
- Zinc Oxide
These are classic physical filters. They sit on the skin’s surface and reflect/scatter UV rays. That’s why they are known to be gentler, safer for sensitive skin, and less likely to cause irritation.
Chemical Filters
- Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (Octinoxate) → absorbs UVB rays
- Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (Tinosorb S) → broad-spectrum, very stable
- Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol (Tinosorb M) → hybrid filter itself (absorbs, reflects, and scatters UV)
These chemical filters absorb UV rays and convert them into harmless energy (heat). They allow the sunscreen to feel lighter, spread evenly, and avoid the thick, chalky finish of 100% mineral sunscreens.
Surprisingly, despite having Octinoxate, my skin did not developed any itching or acne after using UV Doux.

Is UV Doux Vegan and Cruelty-Free?
I can’t say for vegan as I don’t find any such information on the product label but it is cruelty-free, paraben-free, and sulfate-free for sure as stated on the box.
Can people with dry skin use UV Doux?
You can, as the formulation isn’t drying, but you won’t find that satisfying feeling which you might experience from a liquid based or moisturizing sunscreen.
I have used UV doux when I had dry skin in the past and it wasn’t much of an issue but only after I moisturized my skin. I personally prefer Cetaphil moisturising cream when I have dryness and Simple liquid moisturizer when I have oily skin.

Another Option: ISDIN Sunscreen
I loved ISDIN Fusion Water variant when I first tried it and is it was recommended to me by dermatologist when I was going for my laser sessions.

I absolutely loved the milk like liquid texture for my oily skin, the feel on the skin, and everything about it. No breakouts or allergies. But, the thing is, it is way too costly to repurchase so I didn’t go for it again after I finished one.
Plus, there was a time when I fell into that “chemical vs physical sunscreen” loophole and I started ditching all the sunscreens with chemical filters but only after reading the article by Lab Muffin I realised I was just being paranoid (side effect of social media, glad I quit Instagram).

Final Thoughts ✍🏻
What works for me, might not work for you. I, for one, liked the silicone velvet texture as it wasn’t heavy for summer season and for my oily skin. I didn’t find that sticky or chappy. But, at the same time, there are Reddit threads where users mentioned that they liked everything about it but not the velvet-y texture. Some felt they couldn’t blend it (not sure why though 🤷🏻♀️) and then there were comments where this sunscreen is their favourite.
To whom I recommended this sunscreen in the past, shared their experience that this is the best sunscreen ever till date they ever tried. 🥹 Appreciation like these feels good as a beauty blogger. 🙈
