Minimalist Vitamin B5 Moisturizer Review

Update – April 1, 2024 – I no longer use the Brand Minimalist. They have changed their formulations over the past few years and their products give me breakouts and reactions. Even the products that used to work for me now result in acne. I do not recommend Minimalist anymore.

Ingredients

  • Vitamin B5 (Panthenol)

Provides deep penetrating moisture to the skin, and stimulates epithelization to provide wound healing and anti-inflammatory effects. This makes Vitamin B5 an excellent ingredient as it shows immediate effects as a humectant and reduces TEWL with continued use by repairing the skin barrier.

  • Biosaccharide Gum

A natural occlusive that forms a light, breathable layer on the skin and prevents TEWL

  • Zinc, Copper, and Magnesium

Have a radical scavenging effect and together they inhibit cellular free radical formation. These minerals also boost oxygenation of the skin cells and result in increased cell metabolism and cell regeneration

Aqua, Panthenol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Xylitol, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Magnesium Aspartate, Zinc Gluconate, Copper Gluconate, Betaine, Phenoxyethanol, Allantoin, Pentylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Carbomer, Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer

Review – Minimalist Vitamin B5 Moisturizer

Price: Rs. 349 for 50gm

My Skin Type: Combination to Oily in Summer, Dry in Winter, Sensitive, and Acne-Prone Skin

Packaging: It comes in a squeezable tube with a flip-flop cap and the nozzle makes it easy to dispense the product. But pretty soon it was releasing air only as if I had used 90% of the product but in fact, it was barely around 20%.

Fragrance: It doesn’t have the most pleasing fragrance, to be honest, but isn’t completely bad. It reminds you of almonds that taste bitter.

My Experience

I bought the Minimalist Vitamin B5 Moisturizer during summer and the heat was at its peak. I loved a bunch of moisturizers that feel good on my sensitive skin during summer but because I had a great experience with Minimalist before it started going downhill, I thought why not try their moisturizer this time.

Their lightweight term grabbed my attention because what’s better than a moisturizer that soothes and nourishes your skin in highly humid seasons without being heavy on the skin.

I started by taking a pea-sized amount and gently massaging it on my face and the first thing I noticed was its unique texture. It honestly felt like a makeup primer initially with its super silicone texture.

The moment I was massaging it onto my skin, the more it felt like a thin layer or a film on my skin. Like it created a thin layer of moisture on my skin. My skin texture felt like a teacup soft at that moment.

After I further massaged the moisturizer into my skin it felt like the texture was turning into a watery moisturizer. I could feel my skin moist and see that watery shine on my face.

At the same time, I didn’t really feel I had provided some kind of nourishment to the skin, and neither there was any soothing moisturizing effect.

It took some time but it finally got absorbed into my skin no doubt it was a pretty unique texture for a moisturizer but did feel lightweight on my skin. It wasn’t a creamy texture, it wasn’t, it was totally something else and super lightweight.

But, here comes it, within an hour or two my skin felt that kind of dryness as I applied nothing on my face post-cleansing. Where did all the moisture go? Where did all that silicon texture go?

I had to apply my Aveeno again to moisturize my skin. I mean yes, I bought a lightweight moisturizer but it was supposed to moisturize my skin. It legit faded away into the air within an hour.

Even my brother tried it recently who isn’t a fan of thick moisturizers and prefers gel-based watery kinds of textures and he too felt like the moisturization he wanted was all gone.

I mean it felt pointless. It was so lightweight that it just faded away and left no moisture behind. It wasn’t a completely bad experience for me like it didn’t break out or something but it just wasn’t good and didn’t actually solve the purpose.

Final Thoughts

Minimalist Vitamin B5 Moisturizer has a super unique texture and it feels like a thin layer of silicon when you apply it. It is extremely lightweight but takes some to get absorbed by the skin. It turns watery when massaging and leaves skin moist. But, in an hour or so, the moisture from the skin just faded away and my skin felt a strong need for moisturizer. My skin felt dry again and I used my Aveeno moisturizer to soothe my skin.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Non-sticky
  • No Irritation

Cons

  • Not enough nourishing
  • Skin feels dry again in an hour
  • Silicon texture requires some time to massage into the skin
  • Feels like a primer-kind of texture
  • Didn’t solve the purpose
