The Ordinary Caffeine Solution Review

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution Review

I kind of stopped spending my money on eye care cosmetics but ever since The Ordinary launched in India and I saw getting The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG getting a lot of hype on social media I thought why not give this one a try.

The Ordinary had already won my heart with its AHA BHA Peel and I was like, sure, let’s try out their eye serum next.

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG

Price: Rs.700/- for 30ml

Available at lookfantastic.

Product Description

Reduces the appearance of eye contour pigmentation and puffiness.

Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG is a water-based eye serum that primarily targets visible skin concerns around the eye contour. This formula contains a high concentration of caffeine alongside Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside (EGCG) which is derived from green tea leaves. This combination of active ingredients works in synergy to reduce the appearance of visible dark circles and puffiness around the contour.

  1. Hollowness in the eye contour as a result of the structure of sub-dermal tissues like fat and bone can result in visible shadows under the eyes. This shadow, which is not to be mistaken for dark circles, cannot be addressed with topical skincare including this formula.
  1. Fat deposits under the eye contour can create permanent puffiness in this area. This type of deposit cannot be improved with topical skincare, including this formula.
  1. Supplied in UV-protective packaging as EGCG is sensitive to light.

Review – The Ordinary Caffeine Solution Eye Serum

My Eye Area: Dark Circles and Under Eye Hollows by birth.

There was a time when I used to spend so much money on eye care products. Trying new under-eye serums and creams and gels and no doubt some of them were actually effective in improving the skin around my eye area, but, as I grew up I realized the results I get through these eye care products aren’t something for which I need to spend this much on.

Since then I have been using age-old vaseline and even boroline at night to keep my eye area nourished. And for the dark circles, this is what I have learned, there is nothing in this world that can reduce those hollows except for a proper sleep routine, reducing sugar intake, and getting your hormones balanced. How do I know it? Because I have dealt with the same for such a long time and still face it.

There are days when my eyes feel so tired because of screen work social media and disturbed sleep that I wake up having dark circles the next day. Then, there are days when I get a really good amount of sleep and there is a noticeable difference in the way my eyes and my whole face look.

Because The Ordinary has such a huge impact on us I was like, the caffeine solution would definitely do something. It is a scientifically packed product and with all the screen work we go through, I thought this would balance it somewhere.

I started by using The Ordinary Caffeine Solution twice a day. Right after I massaged the solution, I felt this warmth around my eyes. The intensity would sometimes increase if my eyes were more tired. I remember one time my eyes were so strained because I forgot my screen glasses, that the moment I applied the caffeine solution, my eye area felt this wave of heat.

It didn’t sting, itch, or irritate my eyes but there was this dry patch under my eye due to sinus allergy and it felt like it was burning there. Not like a reaction or something. The more tired my eyes were or the more dryness was there around my eyes, the solution would feel intense that day.

Within a few minutes, the skin under my eyes felt tight but it also kind of felt sticky when touched. After hours, it started feeling like I had a very thin layer of a film under my eyes, and when I rubbed it a little, the dried solution legit started coming off in rolls. Sometimes it even looked like the solution got dried up and left this translucent white leftover.

All this experience felt like I applied a gel-based mask of really great consistency, allowed it to dry, and then rubbed it off. And the same off-white substance started to build up on the bottle of the neck.

This was a very unique experience, to be honest, but what really mattered was if it was bringing results. And, it did NOT! I gave it enough time to see how it works on my dark circles and hollows but I didn’t notice any results.

I understand that The Ordinary Caffeine Solution is not meant to target under-eye hollows or permanent puffiness due to excess fat deposit but I didn’t notice any result on the pigmented area, the contour, or the dark circles which we call it.

I neither can use it under my makeup because sooner or later it will start coming off in bits. To sum up, it didn’t work for me. When I looked up experiences by other people, I saw that even the article on Byrdie shared a similar experience. It just didn’t work and I had a lot of expectations. It’s The Ordinary.

Does Ordinary caffeine solution actually work?

In my case, unfortunately, it did not do anything. Plus, the after affects and the heating up of the product on my skin does not made me feel comfortable. It is a big No from me.

Summing Up

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution didn’t do anything for me. It feels warm every time I apply and the more my eyes are tired or dry, the more heat I feel with this serum. It doesn’t get fully absorbed and comes off in dried bits hours after application.

Pros

  • Easy to Massage
  • Smooth Gel like consistency

Cons

  • Not very effective on dark circles
  • Feels a bit sticky minutes after applying
  • It dries up and comes off in bits later
  • No results

This was it for today. I hope you have found my experience with The Ordinary Caffeine Solution helpful. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Have a Good Day!
