Dot and Key Watermelon Sunscreen Review SPF50 PA+++
I have been using Dot and Key Watermelon Sunscreen and Face Wash for a while now. For years, I stayed away from sunscreen because my skin rejected literally each and every Brand and type of sunscreen. No matter what formulations I used, I always ended up with heavy breakouts and painful acne.

A few months back, I received Lakme Sun Expert Ultramatte Sunscreen SPF50 in PR and I was like, it has been so many years, let’s see how my skin reacts to sunscreen now and I was simply blown away by how great it performed on my sensitive and acne-prone skin. Not only it make me like that particular sunscreen, but it also ignited the spark again to explore new options and include sunscreen in the routine as it is high time I find suitable sunscreens for me.
After Lakme, I got introduced to ISDIN, and now this one is from Dot and Key. Literally, each one of them performed so well on my eczema-prone skin and none of them resulted in breakouts. I have this newfound love for sunscreens and I am so glad that we have Brands now that are more suitable for problematic skin and better formulated.

Review – Dot and Key Watermelon Sunscreen SPF50 PA+++
My Skin Type: Combination to Oily in Summer, Dry in Winter, Sensitive, and Acne-Prone Skin. With an eczema history in the past and followed by dust and dairy allergies, I constantly face redness, dry patches, and rashes.

Packaging: It comes in a pink-themed squeezable upside-down bottle with a screen cap and pointed nozzle to dispense the product the right way. It further comes in an outside box, having all the details required on the box and on the bottle. I found it safe and mess-free to store and travel with.
Fragrance: None as such. It legit says fragrance-free.
My Experience
I start by taking a decent-sized amount after I am done with my daytime skincare routine as a last and final step. Before this, I was using ISDIN sunscreen which took my sunscreen expectations to a new height.

First thing first, does watermelon cooling sunscreen actually provide a cooling sensation? Well, the answer is Yes. It definitely, no doubt provided an instant cooling sensation that felt so relaxing in this peak summer but, that lasted only for a few initial uses, and later I didn’t feel any such cooling sensation. I only felt that cooling sensation later on when I had an active heat rash and it only lasted a first few seconds.
Coming to the texture and consistency. It has a soft gel-cream-like texture and I liked how easy it is to apply and massage on the skin. It got quickly absorbed without feeling tacky or leaving any greasy shine. It is slightly moisturizing but not enough to skip your moisturizer. I always use my Neutrogena or Cetaphil moisturizer before following up with any sunscreen.

It is somewhere runny which makes it easy to spread and massage across the face. It doesn’t leave any white cast as claimed and neither it rolls up against the skin.
I am someone whose skin gets burned easily in the skin. Every time I step out in the daytime, I end up with redness all over my body and face, blisters on my hand, rashes, dry patches, and peeling of the skin. So for me, sun protection is extremely important.
Dot and Key Watermelon Sunscreen claims to protect from UV as well as HEV (Screen-light) rays. According to the Brand, this sunscreen will also protect from Sunburns. I wore this sunscreen during my morning walk for Vitamin D exposure and during the sun exposure, I didn’t really experience burn or rashes but after a few hours, my skin started showing signs of blotchiness. My face appeared a little uneven with slight redness and dryness in patches with tiny heat bumps so it didn’t really protect my skin from Sun damage. I could easily notice my skin being triggered after sun exposure and showing signs of sunburn.
As far as the indoor application goes, it performed really well. I did not experience any discomfort or dullness. It did not result in any breakouts or allergies. It doesn’t leave my skin dewy and glowy as the Lakme Sun expert does but looks decent after application.
Dot and Key Watermelon Sunscreen is not a sweat or water-resistant sunscreen so it will easily fade out under long hours of sun exploration and outdoor activities. Also, If you are looking to buy this one for its “cooling” claim, then save your money as the cooling sensation lasts for only the first few uses.
I feel Dot and Key Watermelon Sunscreen is a good option for Indoors but not so much for outdoor activities as it couldn’t do well under direct Sun and I did experience post-sun exposure damage.

Not that it resulted in acne but I won’t recommend this to sensitive skin people as being one with high skin sensitivity, I feel sensitive skin gets easily triggered by Sun and heat, and from my experience, this Dot and Key Sunscreen won’t do a great job of protecting sensitive skin from heat damage.
I still have a lot of Brands and options to explore. I just ordered Dr.Sheth’s Haldi Sunscreen and I am excited to see how it goes.

Final Thoughts
Dot and Key Watermelon Cooling Sunscreen SPF50 offered a lightweight and easy-to-massage texture that got quickly absorbed without leaving any greasy shine or tackiness. However, it did not do well under the direct sun as I experienced signs of sun damage post-sun exposure. My skin looked red and uneven with tiny heat bumps and I could easily see signs of my skin being triggered. Not at all ideal for outdoor activities. Suitable for indoor uses only. The “cooling” sensation lasts for only the first few uses.
Pros
- Lightweight and Non-sticky
- Easy to massage texture
- No White Cast
- Gets quickly absorbed
- Doesn’t feel heavy or greasy

Cons
- The cooling sensation lasts for only the first few uses.
- Not Sweat or Water resistant.
- Not ideal for direct sun exposure and outdoor activities.
- Didn’t protect my skin from Sun damage and my skin looked triggered after sun exposure.
- Not ideal for sensitive skin or those whose skin easily gets triggered under the Sun.
