Product Description

Indian healing clays have been used for centuries to beautify and refresh when used as a facial mask. Cleopatra used clay from the Nile River and the Arabian desert over 1800 years ago, as part of her beauty ritual. German and Roman spas have been using clay packs and treatments in the spas they built 4,000 years ago. Many of these spas still exist and use clay even today. Many famous naturopaths, such as Kuhn, Just, and Kneipp have contributed to the revival of the use of clay through their natural treatments for arthritis and skin ailments. Pliney the Elder devoted an entire chapter of his natural history to the many uses of clay for pimples, blackheads, and skin tightening.
Throughout history, the use of clay, specifically green clay or bentonite, is well documented. Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Deep Pore Cleansing Facial & Body Mask is bentonite clay from Death Valley, California, where it is sun-dried for up to six months in temperatures that sometimes reach 134 degrees.
Each product is protected by an outer seal complete with a custom whole jar shrink-wrap and a non-tear calcium bentonite clay sticker with rounded edges. Each jar comes complete with laser-printed lot numbers and expiration dates on the bottom of the jar for your safety and peace of mind.

REVIEW – Aztec Indian Healing Clay Mask

My Skin Type- Combination in Summers, Dry in Winters, Sensitive, and Acne-Prone Skin
Packaging: It comes in a giant-sized opaque jar with a screw lid. No fancy packaging, just a huge jar of 100% Natural Calcium Bentonite Clay. Information such as price, directions, and expiry date is mentioned on the label.

Fragrance: It doesn’t have a fragrance but smells really weird when mixed with apple cider lol! I mean I am a regular consumer of apple cider but these two form really not-so-pleasant smells.
My Experience
I was aware that it works best only and only with raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar and because I drink that regularly in the morning, I already had a fresh new bottle with me.

I mixed equal amounts of both, this mask and apple cider using measuring spoons. Yes, I kept a set of measuring spoons for this mask. 😀

Right after adding apple cider to it, it started forming acidic bubbles. It looked like a chemical reaction. It was scary I am not kidding!

Once it all turned into a nice paste, I started applying it evenly with a flat brush on cleansed face. The application was smooth and easy, no doubt. You can always add a pinch of powder(mask) or few drops of cider to make the consistency according to your liking.
Within a minute, it started drying out and I am not kidding, it turned into solid rock, literally. It felt like I had a POP or some cement on my face and it all dried now. This was the first-ever mask that dried up to this level.

While it was drying, I was able to notice my skin getting contracted, just like how it was mentioned on the jar, “Pulsate”! It literally felt like my face is squeezing or my skin is getting shrunk towards the center of the face. NOT NORMAL!

After keeping it for 10 to 15 minutes, I washed it off and notice there was this redness which is normal with this face mask. Within an hour, it was all gone and soothed. I made sure to apply a good amount of moisturizer.
Right after washing off, there was this noticeable clean fresh look just like you see after a good mask or clean-up. I really loved how clean my skin felt post masking.
Because this mask dried up to the extreme level and turned into a rock, it sucked out all the oil from the skin so it was really important to follow up with a good rich moisturizer. Definitely, not for dry skin.
I continued using this every week several times and but I didn’t notice much of the results apart from a regular clean skin or at least something why it is hyped for, I Googled and a lot of people mentioned that you have to use it regularly for 7 Days first and then you can reduce the frequency.
I was like, why not! Let’s give it a shot.
I used the Aztec Indian Healing Clay Mask regularly for 7-Days and it literally did a great job. My skin looked so much clear. Like it removed the impurities which weren’t even visible to me. It dried a few pimples I was having. Worked on those clogged pores and I was simply happy because first, it was a costly mask, and second, who doesn’t enjoy happy skin. 😀
But, here it comes, it all worked like a crash diet. No way it worked in that 7-Day period but after I stopped using it, it all came back. There were tiny bumps and comedones all over the face, again. My skin was producing more oil than before. It was like, my skin was forced to produce more oil because of a powerful drying mask.
It looked like it somehow disturbed my skin’s natural pH balance, resulting in more comedones and unbalanced functioning of oil glands.
It took me a month or in fact, more than that to bring my skin into its normal condition. I bought a pH balancing toner and a super-rich moisturizer and I didn’t use any scrub or mask for a month to balance my skin’s pH balance.
So, definitely, using Aztec Indian Healing Clay regularly for a week was not at all a good idea. Just keep it out of the picture and do not think about it lol.
Then, I only used it once a month because it can make your skin super dry and I just wasn’t willing. Plus it is winter, so, no thank you!
I mean, I enjoy using a good weekly detox with a mask that cleanses out the pores and removes the oil but this, is way too much man!
I do enjoy the deep-clean look I get with this mask. My skin really looks fresh and clean but it is way too strong to be used weekly. Consider this like a monthly or quarterly clean-up. In fact, you can get similar results from my all-time favorite homemade mask, Besan and Haldi Face Pack.
The Aztec Mask is way too much costly than what it offers and in my case, I didn’t see what is the hype for. Because I spent a good amount of money on it, I don’t want to waste it. I will continue using it once a month or three months again in the summer.
Tips while masking with Aztec Clay Mask
I totally understand if you feel like you want to experience this mask by yourself too. Here are some tips which I need you to follow while going for the Aztec Clay Mask
- Consider this like a quarterly clean-up
- Do not use this frequently
- Do not keep it on for more than 20 minutes
- Do not rub hard while washing it off
- Follow Up with a Good Moisturizer
- Redness is totally normal with this mask
Of course, each and every product works differently for everyone and if you feel like it, you can go for it but If you’ll ask me, you don’t need this pricey mask. Plus, while it dries it can get so uncomfortable. Like, really uncomfortable!
Summing Up
The Aztec Indian Healing Clay didn’t work as expected in my case. It turns into a solid hard rock after drying and it disturbed the pH balance of the skin in my case resulting in more oil formation and comedones. I really enjoy the fresh and deep-clean look it gives but it can’t be used too frequently. Great for using once in two or three months. Definitely, not for dry skin people.
