First The Ordinary Peeling Solution and now The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution. Ever since The Ordinary is launched in India, I have been trying their products one after another. I love exploring their products and experiencing the hype. I now even bought their Niacinamide Serum as well.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid Review

Salicylic Acid has been quite a gift for us, especially when dealing with clogged pores and congestion. Not to forget, that painful acne. Same reason I have been using Neutrogena Salicylic Acid Face Wash.

My Experience

The only salicylic acid serum I tried before this was from Minimalist and it actually used to be considered The Ordinary of India. I even bought my second bottle I loved it so much. But we all know how Minimalist formulations have changed and how people are not getting the same results we used to get.

Coming to The Ordinary Salicylic Acid, I started using this by including this in my nighttime routine after cleansing and toning, followed by Kiehl’s Moisturizer.

The first thing I noticed was the lightweight and non-sticky consistency. It went easily on my skin without leaving any stickiness behind. I took a few drops onto my palm and patted gently all over my face.

I allowed my skin to adjust to the serum and patiently waited for the serum to show results. After continuously using The Ordinary Salicylic Acid for about two to three weeks, I realized there were no more tiny bumps of clogged pores or any visible large pores. If you are someone with super oily skin and you face excess sebum production, you might have noticed how your pores look large and get easily clogged with dirt and sebum causing tiny little bumps or simply oil heads.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid Review

Not that those oily heads and clogged pores were gone, but it also prevented them from coming back. My skin legit fell smooth and looked smooth. I remember my cheek area used to be full of tiny sharp little oil-heads and I used to squeeze them with my tool.

Ever since I started using The Ordinary Salicylic Acid serum, I didn’t even realize when those tiny bumps started to disappear and my skin especially the cheek area started to appear a lot more clear. Now I know the value of chemical exfoliators.

Even though the consistency helped me, I can not ignore the fact that at some point, you will experience dryness with regular usage of salicylic acid. I was experiencing seasonal dryness and redness because of the peak of summer and using Salicylic acid at that period of time resulted in an increase in rashes and dry patches.

So, consider using Salicylic acid serum only when you have super oily skin and experience congestion and clogged pores due to extreme oil production. I do feel that The Ordinary Salicylic Acid Serum is slightly stronger as compared to Nykaa SkinRx Salicylic acid.

If you are planning on going with The Ordinary Salicylic Acid serum, make sure you start slow and stick to a strict skincare routine consisting of the right moisturizers to help your skin with hydration. Else, start with a slightly milder Brand. For me, it is Nykaa Salicylic Acid.

Next, my target was to see how effective it is in controlling or treating acne I got to be honest, it is a bit slow when it comes to treating acne but is highly effective. The trick is to apply salicylic acid as a mask over the acne and leave it on like that. That way, I saw great results. It even healed that painful red acne effectively.

Now, it didn’t completely stop the acne formation but it has reduced the intensity. I still get a few pimples in a month but I feel if I weren’t using The Ordinary Salicylic acid, my face would have been dealing with a lot more acne issues.

Update (15th August 2023): I now feel that acne-patches are more convenient for treating active painful acne as the patch covers it from dust and reduces the pain. I can easily do my skincare and makeup over the patch. Plus, it does the job with one or two patches max.

Because salicylic acid can make your skin feel dry, I always make sure to keep my skin well-hydrated and moisturized. If you are starting to use a salicylic acid serum for the first time, do not forget your moisturizer at all.

If you are someone with Dry Skin, Sensitive Skin, or experience dryness in any season, do not target salicylic acid. Instead, go for a Vitamin C serum.

Summing Up

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution completely removed tiny oil heads and clogged pores resulting in smooth skin. It actually worked on those large pores and helps decongest them. Not only that, it actually prevented those clogged pores from coming back. It is highly effective on pimples and acne as well but only if you leave it on the acne like a spot treatment otherwise it is a little slow. Lightweight and non-sticky and works for my sensitive skin. Not for dry skin people.

Pros

  • Lightweight and Non-sticky
  • Helps remove oil heads and clogged pores
  • Shrinks large pores and decongests them
  • Highly Effective in treating acne
  • Works best as a spot treatment

Cons

  • Feels slightly stronger as compared to other Brands.
  • Not a con but a suggestion, do not go for it if you have dry skin or any skin issues.
