Aveeno Dermexa Daily Emollient Cream Review

Aveeno Dermexa Daily Emollient Cream Benefits

Aveeno Dermexa Daily Emollient Cream is a popular choice for those looking for a daily moisturizing cream that can help provide relief from dry, itchy skin. This cream is formulated with Triple Oat Complex and Ceramide to help soothe and nourish the skin while providing long-lasting moisture. In this review, I am going to share my honest experience with the product and how it did with my eczema.

I never really thought that I, who had extremely oily skin will one day be using rich moisturizers. I am in my late 20s and apparently, if you have eczema as a kid, there is a high chance it will make a comeback in your 20s which it did.

Now that I am having eczema flare-ups, I am having these dry itchy red rashes all over my face and my skin is dry like dehydrated plastic. I am literally applying layers and layers of moisturizers to soothe and calm the flare-up.

Aveeno Dermexa Emollient Cream Review

I have been trying all kinds of intense and thick moisturizers that would help deal with eczema and the dryness caused by it. I had already tried Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream which is doing a really great job, but, while looking for eczema relief products I got to know about Aveeno Dermexa daily emollient cream and I thought sure, why not.

I already have Eucerin moisturizer which I use on top of my regular moisturizer because I feel Eucerin isn’t enough when it comes to moisturizing but the way it provides a cooling sensation, it is such a huge relief.

Review – Aveeno Dermexa Daily Emollient Cream

My Skin Type: Currently facing extreme dryness due to eczema followed by dry patches, redness, and rashes. Sensitive and acne-prone skin.

Packaging: It comes in a convenient squeezable tube with a flip-flop cap. Easy to store, use, and travel with.

Fragrance: No particular fragrance as such. Even the packaging says it is unscented.

My Experience

I had somewhat idea that Aveeno has something for eczema in there but I didn’t really know what exactly. While looking for it on Nykaa, it showed this Aveeno daily emollient cream for dry and itchy skin. I immediately scrolled down to go through recent customer reviews and decided to buy it.

It’s now only I realized that Aveeno does have something called eczema therapy which I guess is not available in India and is a different product than the daily emollient cream.

Anyways, I started using the product day and night after cleaning my face. The very first thing I notice is the texture. It has that glazed-donut kind of look to it. Somewhat like Vaseline. The way it has translucent look to it, this daily emollient cream from Aveeno looked similar to it.

Aveeno Dermexa Daily Emollient Cream Texture
Aveeno Dermexa Daily Emollient Cream Review by eczema person

The consistency felt perfect. It has that richness that would soothe the dryness and at the same time, it didn’t feel heavy or greasy.

I dotted the moisturizer all over my face and massaged gently. I loved the immediate cooling relief I got. It felt similar to Neutrogena Hydro Boost as I felt that aqua-gel-like relief on my skin. It left my skin nourished and soft to the touch. It legit felt like I fed water to my thirsty skin. That soft and smooth texture provided instant relief to the dryness.

Under normal circumstances, I would have found this texture enough and perfect for my skin. But, because I had this extreme dehydration going on my skin due to allergies, I felt the need for moisturizer soon after applying the Aveeno one.

I continued using the Aveeno cream and felt that I wasn’t getting enough nourishment from this one and I was constantly switching to Cetaphil moisturizing cream. I even had a second layer of Cetaphil moisturizer on top of my Aveeno moisturizer. I was finding the Cetaphil Moisturising cream’s thick texture more suitable to me as compared to Aveeno daily emollient cream at that very particular moment.

Now, I feel it’s only because I am having these dry rashes and redness. My mother on the other hand who is a dry-skin person in general with no other skin concerns loved the Aveeno Dermexa daily emollient cream. She loved the way the texture felt on her skin, the way it moisturized, the way it keeps her skin nourished, and the way it left her skin supple and soft. Talking about the claim, Aveeno Dermexa definitely soothes dry skin.

UPDATE: 12th May 2023 – My Skin has recovered a lot from the peeling and redness, and now that it is feeling healed, this Aveeno moisturizer is doing its job perfectly now. My current skin situation is dryness followed by occasional flakiness and this moisturizer provides an instant soothing relief to dryness and keeps my skin nourished. I love how my skin feels after applying the moisture.

I personally liked the Aveeno emollient cream and it soothes and moisturizes but it isn’t enough for my eczema dryness. I mean it definitely provided relief to the dryness but my skin felt like it just need a lot more. I love Aveeno as a Brand and their skin relief lotion is one of my favorites which I have actually restocked multiple times. But, as of now, my skin is 20x times more dry and dehydrated due to the allergy and this alone wasn’t enough.

For a dry skin person in general, it is perfect. It is a rich moisturizer and it didn’t even result in breakouts so it’s a great option for very dry sensitive skin but not enough to handle eczema dryness or rashes.

Let me tell you this. At this point, I use Nykaa SkinRx Oat Serum and sometimes Hyaluronic Serum after my face wash, followed by Cetaphil moisturizer, then Eucerin moisturizer on top of it to cool down the redness, and then in an hour or so, I apply and massage my face with coconut oil. Imagine the kind of dehydration my skin is going through.

Aveeno Emollient Cream and Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream

At night, I even apply Boroline on the dry red patches after massaging my face with coconut oil. Eczema or similar skin conditions results in an extreme amount of dryness and rashes and you have to constantly apply moisturizer to prevent it from getting dry and itchy.

Redness and rashes apart, this Aveeno emollient cream is a pretty great moisturizer for dry skin. I think it will be a great option for me during winter if my skin goes back to being a combination like it used to be.

I do hope my skin goes back to normal so that I can apply my moisturizer and enjoy the day.

Final Thoughts

For a dry skin or very dry skin person, Aveeno Dermexa Daily emollient cream is a perfect moisturizer as it is a rich moisturizer and doesn’t leave any greasiness behind. Makes skin soft and nourished. But, it isn’t enough for my eczema dryness and I find Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream and its super thick texture more suitable to soothe the rashes. Other than that, Aveeno Daily emollient cream is one of the best moisturizers for dry sensitive skin as it didn’t result in any breakouts and does its job of soothing dry skin perfectly.

Pros

  • Rich Intense Moisturizer
  • Soothes and nourishes
  • Non-greasy
  • Soft and smooth texture
  • Suits my sensitive skin
  • Provides relief to dry skin
  • Best moisturizer for dry skin
  • A great option for oily skin during the Winter season
  • Results in soft, supple, and nourished skin.

Cons

  • Not enough for eczema dryness and rashes
  • Pricey
