Sereko 24H Hydration Sunscreen Review – Here are my thoughts!

sereko 24h hydration sunscreen review by the pink velvet blog

In this article, I am sharing my complete experience and review of Sereko 24H Hydration sunscreen that comes with SPF50++++ and with new-gen chemical filters. What I liked, and didn’t like, everything in detail.

Sereko 24H Hydration Sunscreen Review in a Glance

I like the fact that the Brand Sereko understands the long term concerns that come with chemical filters such as Oxybenzone and hence came with the formulation of modern or new-age chemical filters that claim to be ideal for sensitive skin as well. I like the consistency, it is lightweight and doesn’t make my skin look shiny and offers high SPF50 with UVA & UVB both. It worked for my acne-prone skin but it made my skin dull day by day so I couldn’t continue to use it.

  • Lightweight texture
  • No heaviness or greasiness
  • No acne or breakouts
  • Caused dullness with regular use

I’ll Rate it: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What I like about this sunscreen?

  • Brand is Vegan and Cruelty-free with no harsh ingredients
  • Doesn’t feel heavy upon application
  • Bluelight Protection + Water Resistant
  • Broad Spectrum (UVA+UVB) with PA++++
  • Doesn’t pills up
  • No breakouts

What I don’t like about Sereko sunscreen?

  • The grassy and cardboard-y fragrance is not something that I liked
  • It made my skin look so dull with the regular use
  • I did not notice anything related to “relieves stress, increases serotonin, and reduced cortisol” claim.

Why I bought the Sereko Sunscreen?

It randomly caught my attention while scrolling Blinkit’s skincare section and I found this totally new Brand, called Sereko. After a quick research, I figured out it’s a sunscreen with new-age or new-gen chemical filters. Meaning, they do not contain the traditional chemical filters such as avobenzone and oxybenzone that have controversies associated to them for causing breakouts and hormonal issues in the long run.

I can’t say about the long term effects, but I have definitely noticed my skin breaks out badly when using commercial sunscreens with chemical filters.

Only when I used UV Doux, I realised that I only need to pick mineral sunscreens or sunscreens with physical filters only. It’s a surprise though how ISDIN worked for me that too being a chemical one. Still, after I learned about the ingredients, I avoided that and am now sticking with mineral sunscreens.

My Experience with Sereko 24H SPF 50 Hydration Sunscreen

My skin type: Combination to Oily in the Summer season and Dry in the Winter. Sensitive and acne-prone skin with a history of eczema and allergies.

Starting with the packaging 👀

It comes in a squeezable tube with a screw cap and nozzle that perfectly dispenses the product. It was easy to store and use. The tube has information such as ingredients and date so no need to store the outer box. 😌

Coming to the fragrance

I don’t happen to like it. I don’t know it just smells like a mix of citrus, grass, cardboard, algae, and some rainy leaves. I don’t know if I am putting it right but it didn’t come out nice. 🙈 They have mentioned Marine Algae in the ingredients so it’s probably that.

Gel-crème like consistency

I started by taking a decent amount and applied evenly on the face and neck. I didn’t go with the two-finger amount rule this time. Just wasn’t in the mood. 🙃

The texture and consistency is like gel crème as mentioned by the Brand. It’s neither too liquid or runny nor too thick. Somewhere in between and was easy to massage on the skin.

No stickiness, heaviness, or white-cast

I did not experience any stickiness, white cast, or heaviness after application and nor it pilled up while applying. True to the claims of being lightweight, it did not feel heavy at all.

This sunscreen was my last step in my day time skincare routine where I paired this with Pilgrim Vitamin C serum and Simple ultra light liquid moisturizer.

No breakouts or allergies

I continued to use the sunscreen for a week and the good part was it did not result in breakouts or rashes or acne which I usually face within a day or two if the sunscreen ingredients are not suitable for my skin. So the thing with “new age chemical filters” was somewhere showing its effectiveness here.

No watery eyes 👀

Another thing that I liked that the sunscreen did not sting my eyes. So, no case of water or red eyes with this Sereko sunscreen.

But, it made my skin look dull

What went opposite was, my face started to look dull day by day. Initially, I wasn’t really sure what was causing this dullness. I thought it’s the sweaty season and the heat that might have resulted in the change but it was not just the tone of my skin. The dullness used to go with my evening facewash.

I noticed the pattern where I woke up with my normal skin as usual but it looked dull throughout the day after my shower and day time skincare. That’s when I figured out it might be this Sereko sunscreen which was causing my skin to look dull.

I stopped using the sunscreen and my skin’s behaviour and appearance was back to usual. And let me tell you, that Pilgrim Vitamin C serum absolutely works!! I’ll be sharing that review soon here on the blog.

For this particular reason, that Sereko SPF50 sunscreen was making my skin look so dull day by day, I couldn’t continue to use it. I can finish the product by using it on the body though. It however did not cause any acne.

Breaking Down Sunscreen Labels: What SPF, Broad Spectrum, and PA+++ Really Mean

What about the Neurocalm-blend claim?

I really don’t know what to take away from that. They mentioned that their proprietary psychodermatological formula alleviates stress to provide a mood-enhancing impact but I really didn’t notice anything. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I respect the science behind and it definitely must have shown some results under tests because I am aware of skin concerns that come with stress such as rashes, acne, and itching but I don’t know how to measure the “reduced stress” factor with the sunscreen application.

I understand if the product contains calming scents that work as aromatherapy like in the Nature Spell Rosemary Oil but I did not notice any such impact in the Sereko sunscreen. Or it was something beyond my knowledge that I couldn’t grasp it. 🥹

What about the instant cooling affect and calming redness claim?

Unfortunately, I did not feel any instant cooling effect. That’s usually the first thing to feel and notice after the application but there was no cooling effect as such.

As far as the calming redness goes, I did not had any active rash or redness so I can’t say about the results but it did not aggravate my existing acne and nor it trigger the skin for new ones, that’s for sure.

  • Not heavy on the skin

  • No avobenzone or oxybenzone
  • Didn’t result in pimples

Cons

  • Not a pleasant fragrance
  • Caused dullness
  • Not much to say about neurocalm or reduce anxiety factor

✍🏻 Final Thoughts

I respect the Brand Sereko as a whole with their clean beauty, cruelty-free, and plant-based claims. They are taking psychodermatological skincare into much deeper thoughts with their products as I understand the effects of stress over skin. But, I couldn’t understand how I would notice the “increases serotonin” factor with sunscreen application.

Overall, I liked the product. The packaging, lightweight texture, ease of application, and neither it irritate my skin. Claims a high sun protection factor with 50++++. No breakouts, acne, or any side effects. It’s just that it made my skin look dull which was a real disappointment. Is it because of a particular ingredient, can’t say.

That being said, I am excited to try the other Sereko products, especially the calming gel pen. 🥹
