Biolage Smoothproof Deep Treatment Hair Pack and Serum Review
Smoothproof range, the yellow one is one of my favorite variants from the Matrix Biolage series and I have already shared my review on the shampoo and conditioner earlier. Because I loved that shampoo and conditioner so much and got such great results, I decided to re-order this time along with the Biolage smoothproof hair pack and hair serum – basically the complete kit.
This whole range is for frizzy hair but I feel like the shampoo especially, not only tamed the frizzyness but also repaired my hair and resulted in soft and noticeable hair every time. This smoothproof range is my loved and recommended one from Matrix Biolage. No wonder I had to try their hair serum and pack.
Biolage Smoothproof Deep Treatment Hair Pack and Serum – Quick Review
Biolage Smoothproof is one of my favorite ranges and I love the shampoo and conditioner from this series but the deep treatment pack did not work out for me. It did not deliver any results. Not even close to what the conditioner does. The deep smoothing serum on the other hand is a good one and it actually worked on frizziness and fly-aways, especially in the humidity but it doesn’t do anything to smooth dry ends or make them soft.

Now, it is not a hair masque. I had no idea that Biolage has hair masques as well too but the one I have is a hair pack and not a mask.

How to Use

Now that the basics are covered, it’s time I focus on the individual product so that you don’t get confused.
My Hair Type: Oily scalp with dry and rough hair. Wavy to curly hair type. They become rough easily due to dust and pollution.
Biolage Smoothproof Deep Treatment Pack Review
Lately, I have developed an interest in hair masks and I love trying new hair masks for my hair. Let me tell you, my hair wasn’t always this dry as I shared above.
My hair has always been soft and smooth but for some time now, they have become severely rough. I don’t know if it is the weather, pollution, water quality, or simply stress, but my hair isn’t exactly “oh! wow” at the moment.
They have also been transitioning to wavy hair type and none of my tried and tested hair care methods seem to be working now, especially those meant for straight to wavy hair. No matter what, at the end of the day, my hair sort of expands, and becomes curly but I don’t know why they are so rough.
Because the smooth proof range worked so good for me, I had to try out their hair pack and this hair situation seems perfect to test out the product.
Packaging
It comes in a squeezable see-through tube with a flip-flop cap. The tube is easy to store and use. The quantity I think is ideal for 4 to 5 times of use.
Fragrance
It smells really good. Like a mango-scented perfume. It definitely smells perfumed but it didn’t disturb my senses. Although, I was hoping that the scent would linger on my hair no it didn’t.
I tried applying the pack before shampooing – but, no results
Usually, I apply hair masks before shampooing. I evenly apply hair masks, leave them for an hour, and go with the usual shampoo and conditioner. This whole process works great for my hair.
So I did the same with this hair pack. I applied the pack evenly throughout my hair and let it sit for about 20 minutes and then I went for the shampoo and conditioner, the usual.
Surprisingly, I didn’t notice a thing! Literally, nothing. I couldn’t tell if I had a deep treatment hair pack because my hair looked the same rough and dry.
I thought maybe it isn’t going to work like hair masks and I needed to apply it after shampoo as the product said.
I used the pack after shampooing – still no results
Next time, instead of the conditioner, I used this deep treatment pack after my shampoo, left it for 5 minutes as suggested, and washed it off. I didn’t follow up with the conditioner or anything as I wanted to see the real difference and effectiveness of this pack.
And, it did not do anything this way either. My hair looked the same as they do after shampoo and conditioner.
It just felt like I used a different hair conditioner with no difference to notice as such. Once my hair was dry after washing, they were back to being rough and dry and with this curly hair situation, I was looking no less than Hagrid!
Did not work out for me
The hair pack did not do anything for me at all. Not even the tiniest bit of effectiveness could be seen. I can’t tell if it is my hair or the product isn’t that effective but I got no results.
I notice far better “deep treatment” results with coconut oil. Unfortunately, this smoothproof pack was a failure for my hair.
Luckily, it did not cause any hair breakage or anything.
Now, let’s move on to the hair serum.
Biolage Smooth Proof Deep Smoothing Serum Review
There is something satisfying about hair serums right? 😹 I don’t know why I just love them. They are a final polishing or something.
I have been using L’Oreal hair serums for years, especially their extraordinary oil serum. I love what it does to my hair. From managing to taming the rough ends, it works for everything.
But, it was time to test out what Biolage serum does to my hair.
Packaging
It comes in a sleek see-through bottle with a flip-flop cap and a controlled nozzle and dispenses the right amount of the serum. I find it easy to store, use, and carry while traveling.
Fragrance
This too smells somewhat perfumed but in a good way. Not at all triggering to my sensitive nose.
Once my hair was semi-dry or damped, I took a decent amount of the serum and applied it evenly throughout the strands making sure no area was left behind.
Helped manage and detangle hair
It immediately sort of softened my hair making it easy to brush through without breaking my hair so it no doubt helped to manage my hair post hair wash.
The claim of “Instantly detangles” was definitely on point. Now this was without any hair styling tool.
Next, I wanted to see how much effective it is when using heat appliances for styling.
So I prepped my hair with this serum and followed with my Dyson to dry and brush through. I don’t think it can replace heat protectors because it doesn’t say to which degree this serum protects plus, my hair did feel a bit rough when I used this serum instead of the usual BBlunt Heat Protection spray.
Works on frizziness – But doesn’t add any shine or softness
Once I was done drying and styling my hair, I further used the serum as a final touch to add shine and smoothness. It no doubt controlled the frizzy fly-aways up to some extent but I don’t see it nourishing the dry ends or adding shine as it claims.
I feel this is a decent serum, nothing anything major but, isn’t bad either. It is like an everyday serum to detangle hair and manage the frizziness every now and then especially when comes to the humidity.
It does claim to work in humidity and manage the frizziness that comes with the humid season and It for sure helped on humid days.
My hair looked next level rough during humidity and this serum actually helped in taming down the frizziness.
Biolage Smoothproof serum vs L’Oreal hair serums
If I compare this Smoothproof serum to L’Oreal hair serums then I think those L’Oreal hair serums especially the extraordinary oil serum are superior to this Biolage one. This smooth-proof serum is a decent option to deal with everyday frizziness and it helps with detangling and managing hair post-wash. The L’Oreal serum on the other hand not just tames the frizziness but also adds shine, softness, and smoothness to my hair.
If you aren’t facing any dryness as such and you don’t need anything major, just a decent hair serum to deal with day-to-day frizziness, then Biolage Smoothproof is a really good option.
Final Thoughts: Biolage Smoothproof Hair Pack and Hair Serum
The deep treatment pack unfortunately did not work out for me. I did not notice any results or effectiveness – nothing. The serum, worked as claimed up to some extent. I find it a decent option to control the seasonal frizz and it helped during humidity as well. It helps in detangling hair post wash but it did not do much in terms of smoothing rough hair or adding nourishment. Both did not cause any hair breakage, phew!
