A Spiritual Guide for When Life Stops Making Sense

spiritual awakening guide when life stops making sense

I know exactly what it feels like when everything just… stops making sense. When you wake up and the life you’ve been living suddenly feels hollow, when the things that used to excite you now leave you feeling empty, when you’re scrolling through your phone at 2am wondering if this is really all there is. I have literally been there!!

And, I want you to know that what you’re feeling isn’t something to fix or push away, it’s actually your soul tapping you on the shoulder, trying to get your attention. It’s the beginning of something beautiful, even if it doesn’t feel that way right now.

Those who are already on the spiritual path must be wondering, your soul? Because by the grace of Pujya Shri Premanand Maharaj ji, we all kind of know that soul is actually…us! we! But, for the sake of getting this message delivered to as many people as possible, I am using the default terminology.

This isn’t going to be another article telling you to journal more or take bubble baths (though those are lovely too). This is about something deeper, something that actually changed everything for me. This is about finding your way back home to yourself through spirituality, real, genuine, life-altering spirituality.

1. When the World Feels Like It’s Moving Too Fast

There’s something the Bhagavad Gita talks about that hit me like a lightning bolt when I first read it. Krishna explains to Arjuna that we’re all wandering through life, attracted to temporary pleasures that promise happiness but leave us feeling more lost than before. We think the next purchase, the next relationship, the next achievement will finally make us feel whole. But it never does, does it?

The Gita calls this Maya, the illusion that material things can fill a spiritual void. And here’s the thing: you’re not broken for feeling this way. You’re actually waking up. You’re starting to see through the illusion, and that’s why nothing feels quite right anymore.

Krishna tells Arjuna that the soul is searching for something eternal, something that doesn’t fade or disappoint. And that something is divine connection. It’s what we’ve all been looking for in all the wrong places.

2. The Sacred Practice That Changes Everything

Now, I’m going to share with you the practice that genuinely transformed my entire existence, and I mean that with every fiber of my being. It’s called nama japa—the chanting of the divine name, “Krishna Krishna Krishna.”

I know it might sound unfamiliar or even strange at first. But hear me out.

When you chant the name of Krishna, something mystical happens. It’s actually a secret key and this whole thing is about experiencing it by yourself.

The Bhagavad Gita teaches us that God’s name and God Himself are non-different. Meaning when you speak the divine name, you’re actually connecting directly with the Supreme. You’re not just saying a word; you’re invoking divine presence into your life, into your heart, into your very consciousness.

It’s not just the name, entire universe, all the energies, power, knowledge, everything is in one single name, Krishna.

This isn’t optional if you truly want to step into spiritual light. Naam jap (name chanting) is the path. This is how you cut through the confusion and find clarity. This is how you replace the anxiety with peace, the emptiness with fullness, the chaos with divine order.

Here’s what I want you to do, start chanting Krishna’s name every single day. Aim for 1000 to 5000 repetitions daily. Yes, I know that sounds like a lot. But think about how many minutes you spend scrolling social media, how many thoughts you give to worries that don’t serve you. This is about redirecting that energy toward something that will actually fill your cup.

You can use an app on your phone or a digital counter to keep track. Set aside time in the morning when your mind is fresh, or do it throughout your day, while you’re getting ready, during your commute, before bed. Let the name become your companion, your comfort, your constant.

Krishna Krishna Krishna.

The ultimate goal is to chant mentally while doing our day to day tasks.

Let it flow like a river through your consciousness. At first, your mind will wander. You’ll think about your to-do list, your relationships, random memories. That’s okay. Just gently bring yourself back to the name. Over time, something remarkable happens. The name starts to clear away the fog. You begin to feel lighter. More grounded. More connected to something infinitely bigger than your daily struggles.

The Gita promises that those who take refuge in Krishna will find ultimate peace and bliss. Not temporary happiness that fades, but lasting joy that comes from divine connection. This is your pathway there.

3. What You Eat Becomes Who You Are

Now let’s talk about something that might challenge you, but I promise you, it’s essential, adopting a vegetarian diet.

I know, I know. You might be thinking about taste, convenience, social situations. But please stay with me because this is about so much more than food.

The Bhagavad Gita explains that food affects not just our bodies but our minds and consciousness. Everything in this universe is energy, and the food we consume carries energy into our being. When we eat foods that involve violence and suffering, we’re ingesting that pain, that fear, that trauma into our own system.

Krishna teaches about the three modes of nature—goodness (sattva), passion (rajas), and ignorance (tamas). Foods in the mode of goodness are fresh, pure, and life-giving. They promote clarity, compassion, and spiritual awareness. Foods involving harm and violence pull us into lower states of consciousness, creating heaviness in our minds and obstacles on our spiritual path.

For the same reason, I no longer add onions and garlic to my food and this has been a life changing decision. I feel so, so good!

Think about it, how can we cultivate peace within ourselves when we’re consuming violence? How can we open our hearts to divine love when we’re participating in suffering?

This is more than just our outer physical body.

This isn’t about judgment. This is about understanding that your spiritual journey requires a foundation of compassion—compassion for all living beings, including the animals who share this planet with us. When you switch to a vegetarian diet, you’re making a powerful statement, that you choose consciousness over convenience, that you choose love over harm. And Krishna will reward you for this. Trust me!

And here’s what I discovered, when you align your diet with your spiritual practice, everything shifts.

Your mind becomes clearer. Your meditations deepen. That chanting practice I mentioned? It becomes more powerful because you’re not carrying the weight of violence in your system. Your intuition sharpens. You start feeling more connected to the divine presence that lives in all beings.

The food you eat isn’t just fuel for your physical body, it’s nourishment for your soul. Choose foods that support your highest self. Choose compassion. Choose consciousness.

Fill your plate with vibrant vegetables, nourishing grains, fresh fruits, legumes, dairy if it resonates with you. Cook with intention. Bless your food. Thank the earth for providing. And watch how this simple shift creates ripples of transformation throughout your entire life.

4. Surrendering to Something Greater

Here’s where the Bhagavad Gita offers us the most profound wisdom, Krishna tells Arjuna to surrender all his worries, all his plans, all his attachments, and simply take refuge in Him.

“Just surrender unto Me,” Krishna says. “I will protect you from everything. Don’t be afraid.”

This is the ultimate invitation. This is what your soul has been craving.

You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to understand every scripture or follow every rule. You just have to open your heart and say, “Krishna, I surrender to You. Guide me. Protect me. Show me the way.”

When life stops making sense, it’s because we’ve been trying to control everything with our limited understanding.

We’ve been trying to find happiness in things that can’t provide it. We’ve been searching outside when the answer has always been within, in that divine connection that’s waiting for us.

Krishna promises that He reciprocates with our love. The more we turn toward Him, the more He reveals Himself to us. The more we chant His name, the more we feel His presence. The more we align our lives with spiritual principles, the more clarity and peace we experience.

This is the bliss the Gita speaks of, not the temporary high of getting what we want, but the lasting joy of knowing we’re held by something infinitely loving and infinitely wise.

5. Creating Your Sacred Morning Ritual

Let me paint you a picture of what this could look like in your daily life, because spirituality isn’t abstract, it’s deeply practical and achingly beautiful.

Imagine waking up and, instead of immediately reaching for your phone, you close your eyes, and bow down mentally to Krishna. You spend the first moments of your day speaking Krishna’s name, setting the tone for everything that follows. Krishna Krishna Krishna. The morning light filters through your window, and you feel yourself connecting to something vast and sacred.

You prepare a simple, compassionate breakfast, maybe fresh fruit, warm oatmeal with cinnamon, herbal tea. You eat mindfully, grateful for the earth’s abundance, knowing that every bite supports your spiritual journey rather than hindering it.

Throughout your day, you return to the name. Waiting in line? Krishna Krishna Krishna. Feeling anxious? Krishna Krishna Krishna. The name becomes your anchor, your refuge, your constant companion.

In the evening, you reflect on your day. You read a few verses from the Bhagavad Gita, letting the wisdom sink into your heart. You chant again before sleep, ending your day the same way you began it, wrapped in divine remembrance.

This is how you build a spiritual life. Not through grand gestures, but through daily devotion. Not through perfection, but through sincere effort. Not through your own strength, but through surrender to divine grace.

6. The Journey from Lost to Found

I won’t tell you this path is always easy. Some days the chanting will feel mechanical. Some days you’ll miss the foods you used to eat. Some days you’ll wonder if any of this is real.

But I promise you this, if you commit to these practices, the daily nama japa, the vegetarian lifestyle, the study of sacred texts, the genuine surrender, your life will transform in ways you cannot yet imagine.

And let me tell you, I wasn’t too always like this. My life took major turns to make me surrender. So if you are reading this, please consider this as a sign and just think of it as a train you have to get on board. No matter what!!

The confusion will begin to clear. The emptiness will start to fill. The desperation will give way to trust. Not overnight, but gradually, like dawn breaking after a long night.

You’ll start to notice synchronicities, little signs that you’re being guided. You’ll feel more present, more peaceful, more purposeful.

You’ll look back at this moment, this moment right now when you’re reading these words, and recognize it as the turning point.

The Bhagavad Gita assures us that even a little practice of this path protects us from the greatest fear. Even the smallest steps toward Krishna bring us closer to ultimate truth. You don’t have to leap, you just have to begin.

Your Invitation to Divine Love 💛

So here’s my invitation to you, beautiful soul, stop searching for answers in places that can’t provide them. Stop trying to fill a spiritual void with material things. Stop numbing yourself to the call of your own awakening.

Instead, turn toward the light. Begin chanting Krishna’s name, 1000 times, 5000 times, as many as you can manage. Let the name work its magic on your consciousness. Commit to a vegetarian diet and feel the shift in your energy, your clarity, your compassion. Study the Bhagavad Gita and let Krishna’s words illuminate your path.

This is your moment. This is your invitation. This is your way home. 🙌

Krishna is waiting for you with infinite patience and infinite love. All you have to do is take the first step. Chant the name. Make the commitment. Surrender your confusion and trust that you’re being led toward something more beautiful than you can currently comprehend.

When life stops making sense, it’s not the end, it’s the beginning. It’s your soul’s way of telling you that you’re ready for something deeper, something truer, something eternal.

Welcome to your spiritual journey. Welcome home. With so much love and light. 🎀

Please Remember, Chant daily. Eat consciously. Surrender completely. The path is clear, and Krishna is calling you forward. You are not alone on this journey. 🙌
