15 Energy Cleansing Rituals That Go Beyond Candles and Crystals

natural energy cleansing rituals

I absolutely love my candles – like, I truly love them. The way they flicker and how they make everything feel cozier.

But I also wondered and realized that sometimes I feel energetically heavy and candles are not always enough. Because it’s our energy that is requiring our attention and it’s going to take a lot more than candle to uplift that.

There are so many other gentle ways to cleanse our energy that don’t cost anything at all.

I ain’t saying there’s anything wrong with candles and crystals. But if you’ve ever found yourself searching for “how to cleanse your energy” late at night, feeling like maybe you’re missing something, I hope what I’m about to share resonates with you.

These 15 practices have genuinely shifted how I move through my days.

They’re simple, accessible, and honestly? They just work. 😌 No pressure, no perfection required – just real ways to reset your energy that you can try today if they feel right for you.

1. Chanting the Name Krishna

The name Krishna isn’t random. Each syllable creates a specific vibration in your body. The ‘K’ activates your throat, ‘ri’ rolls through your chest, ‘sh’ calms your nervous system, and ‘na’ grounds you. I chant it softly while getting ready in the morning, just letting the sound move through me. Within minutes, that scattered feeling lifts. You’re literally using vibration to tune yourself back to clarity.

2. Loud Clapping to Break Stagnant Energy

Clap your hands loudly and deliberately. Not polite clapping, but the kind that makes a sharp, cracking sound. Do it 20-30 times. The sound waves literally break up stagnant energy in the space around you and in your own field. The sharper and louder the clap, the more effective it is. Your hands might sting a little, but that’s the energy moving.

3. Humming While Touching Your Chest

I place my hand on my chest and hum – any note that feels comfortable. The vibration moves stuck energy through your body in a way nothing external can reach. Your bones carry the sound, your tissues respond to it. When you add your hand to your chest, you create a circuit that amplifies everything. It’s simple, but you can feel it working in real time.

4. The 54321 Grounding

Stomp your feet 5 times, clap 4 times, snap 3 times, tap your chest 2 times, take 1 deep breath. The physical percussion literally shakes energy loose & drops you back into your body. Like, hello! Wake up!! It helps when I’m spiraling or can’t seem to land anywhere. It’s almost impossible to stay scattered after you’ve moved your body this deliberately.

5. Walking Backwards

This sounds odd until you try it. Walk backwards for 2-3 minutes – in your hallway, your backyard, wherever feels safe.

Disrupting your usual energy patterns forces you to be completely into the present moment. Your brain has to work differently, your body moves differently, and somehow that breaks up whatever heaviness you were carrying. I do this when I feel stuck in a loop.

This somewhere also relates to that book Atomatic Habits. Like, how our brain works on automation for the our daily tiny tasks. So when you break those moments on atomic level, its basically you asking your brain to not used the stored files, but be fully present.

6. Breath of Fire (Kapalabhati)

Short, forceful exhales through your nose. Quick, rhythmic, almost like you’re blowing out birthday candles rapidly. This clears stagnant energy from your solar plexus and oxygenates your cells in a completely different way than normal breathing. Start with 30 seconds and work up. It’s intense, but it burns through energetic blocks faster than almost anything else I’ve tried. But do this only when you are empty stomach. Never when you are full.

7. Tratak with a Candle Flame

Light a candle and stare at the flame without blinking until your eyes water. Then close your eyes and watch the afterimage. This is an ancient practice that cleanses your third eye and clears energetic blockages in your ajna chakra. Try doing it as a practice and overtime it just lifts you to a different level.

8. Bhramari (Bee Breath)

Cover your ears with your fingers and make a humming bee sound. The vibration does something in your mind and body, and you literally feel it clearing mental fog. I love doing this when anxiety is loud. The sound drowns everything else out and the vibration calms my entire head from the inside. Just a minute or two of this and my thoughts settle.

Even if you don’t hum, simply covering your ears with your finger and closing your eyes is explained in the scriptures like experiencing Universe with its sound. Simply try it you’ll feel it for yourself.

9. Chanting Om 108 Times

Do not underestimate the number 108 and the sound of Om. Om is the first sound and the first ever formation that energy took. Om creates a complete energetic reset. I usually do this at dawn or right before bed. The sound of Om contains the vibration of the universe, and repeating it 108 times realigns your frequency with something bigger than yourself. I keep a mala to count, or you can do this with a digital counter and by the end, I feel like I’ve been washed clean from the inside out.

10. Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana)

Close your right nostril and breathe in through your left, then close your left and breathe out through your right. Keep alternating. This balances your left and right energy channels, your masculine and feminine energy, your entire energetic system. When I’m feeling off-balance or reactive, this brings me back to center within minutes. Again, this is for you to do on empty stomach.

11. Camphor Flame for Aura Cleansing

Light a small piece of camphor in a camphor burner. Camphor has the highest vibrational frequency of any natural substance, which is why it’s been used in temples and spiritual practices for centuries. When it burns, it purifies the energy field around you and dissolves negativity that’s clinging to your aura. The smoke carries away what doesn’t serve you. I burn camphor daily. And I simply love it. Try sometimes and you’ll start loving it too. Make sure you only buy real bhimseni camphor as everything is adulterated these days.

12. Tratak with a Black Dot

Draw or place a small black dot on a wall at eye level. Or simply find one. There are so many circles and dots around us. Stare at it without blinking until your eyes water, then close them. It’s simpler than candle gazing but just as powerful for clearing your mind and resetting your focus.

13. Conscious Hydration Ritual

For some moments whenever I am having a glass of water, I pause for just a second and think, “This water cleanses and renews the aura and every cell in my body.” Or whatever positive affirmation. I hold my glass with both hands for a moment before drinking, take three intentional sips, and imagine the water flowing through my system and washing away anything that feels stagnant. The intention is what makes it powerful. Same water, same body, but adding that conscious moment of awareness shifts the whole experience.

14. The Five Senses Reset

When I’m feeling overwhelmed or like I’ve absorbed too much from the world around me, this grounding technique brings me completely back into my body and the present moment. I notice five things I can see, four things I can touch (and actually touch them), three things I can hear, two things I can smell, and one thing I can taste. It pulls everything back and anchors me right here, right now. You can do this anywhere – sitting at your desk, waiting in line, lying in bed at night.

15. Skipping a Meal with Intention

Try skipping either breakfast or lunch intentionally. When your digestive system is not in action, your body redirects that energy toward clearing and healing. I use the time I’d normally spend eating to sit quietly, read scriptures, chant name, or journal instead. When you deliberately give a break to your digestion, you make space for something new to move through. Fasting is really powerful guys. Like, really!
