Environment-Friendly Makeup Removers in India

Makeup Removal - The Environment-Friendly Way

I love how makeup brings out creativity amongst us but it is equally important to invest in some Environment-Friendly Makeup Removers. Some of us love playing with eyeshadows while others pour in their creativity in Lip Arts. Not to forget, the talented artist who uses makeup showcase their art via body and face paints.

No matter how much we love doing makeup, it is important to take it off before going to bed in order to keep your skin healthy. Not just taking off the makeup, but how you take off the makeup plays a really important role especially today, when we are facing climate change and environmental damage.

As mentioned, the way you take off makeup plays an important role. We all have used thousands of cotton rounds and makeup removing wipes to take off our makeup.

Makeup Wipes, at the moment, are causing serious damage to our environment. They are not easily compostable and cause blockage in our landfills. As per the recent Instagram Post by Face Halo, Makeup Wipes create 3.4 Billion KGs of waste every year.

While using cotton rounds every time we remove our makeup, leads to a huge amount of wastage. With the speed at which our environment is facing damage, it is high time we not only use better options but also reduce the amount of wastage as much as we can.

1. Makeup Removing Towels or Pads

You must have seen people over Social Media talking about reusable makeup removing towels.

🙋🏻‍♀️ I curated a list of

My Personal Favourites

Niharika X Nykaa

They gained hype when The Original Makeup Eraser came into the light which only needs warm water to take off the makeup and surprisingly, it actually does take off all the makeup just by dipping the towel in warm water.

By dipping the towel in warm water, the fibers get activated and remove the entire makeup with ease.

They can be machine washed with your regular clothes, are reusable, safe for your skin, and works effectively.

The best thing about makeup removing towels I like is, they don’t require any additional ingredient which makes it suitable for all skin types. No need to worry whether any particular ingredient or formulation will work or not just like how we think about other makeup removers.

There are multiple options available in the market now along with the original makeup eraser such as Face Halo.

If you are wondering how exactly a towel can remove makeup just by dipping in warm water, makeuperaser.com explains how exactly the towels work.

2. Facial Cleansing Oils

Facial Cleansing Oils - Environment-Friendly Makeup Remover

Cleansing Oils are another great way to take off your makeup. Because oils are known to dissolve and melt-off the makeup, the cleansing-oils are loved by people.

A lot of brands such as Innisfree, The Face Shop, and Kiehl’s have cleansing oils.

All you need to do is, wet your face just like you would do with your regular face wash, take some amount onto your palm, rub it between your hands, and start removing your makeup in a gentle circular motion. You will see how effectively the oil will dissolve and melt away the makeup without much of rubbing and tugging your skin.

Next, you can easily go ahead and wash it off with a face wash, and done! All your makeup is gone.

This way, you will be avoiding the usage of makeup wipes and cotton rounds. 😇

The only risk with cleansing oils is, they don’t work for everyone. Majority of the people love it but for some, cleansing oils cause breakouts to them. So make sure to check the ingredients and formulation to see if it is suitable for your skin type.

I have seen a lot of people using coconut oil for the same purpose but at the same time, a lot of people always say that coconut oil causes breakouts to them. Hence, cleansing oil is always a good idea to be on the safer side.

3. Cleansing Balm

Cleansing Balm - Environment Friendly Makeup Remover

The one product which comes into mind when talking about the cleansing balm is, Clinique Take the Day off Cleansing Blam. It is the cult favorite and dissolves the makeup within the blink of an eye.

No matter how heavy your makeup is, simply taking the small amount will do the job.

Take the product onto your palm, rub it between your hands, and start removing your makeup with gentle circular motions. Next, go ahead and wash it off with warm water. The product will emulsify when it comes in contact with water and all your makeup will be gone.

Follow with a good face wash later to get rid off any traces left.

But, just like the cleansing oil, you need to make sure to check the ingredients and formulation to see if it is suitable for your skin type and won’t lead to clogging of pores or breakouts.

How about Organic Cotton Rounds?

I can understand how easy it was to take off the makeup by simply pouring micellar water or makeup remover on a cotton pad and wiping it all away. I have been personally loving using micellar water on an everyday basis before I started using Makeup Removing Towel.

If switching to more nature-friendly cotton rounds is what you are planning about, then you can easily go for Organic Cotton Rounds available in the market. It might not reduce wastage, but will be a better option than non-biodegradable ones.

What about the Makeup Removers you are already Having?

I can understand it is a bit tough task to bring in changes to your skincare and makeup routine you are habitual of. I still have my micellar water and the makeup remover I recently restocked before switching to makeup remover towel and I am in no way, asking anyone to dump any of the product (like a fancy social media campaign) you are currently using. But I made sure to reduce the usage as much as possible.

I will be honest and practical, there are some days when I am in a hurry and got no time to follow the complete makeup removal process and I simply pick the cotton round from my shelf, pour in micellar water, remove the makeup, and off to the task I am in hurry for but this way, I made sure the wastage is reduced as much as possible.

Summing Up

Changing the way you take off makeup will be a slight contribution of yours in the reduction of the wastage caused on a global level. Although, the wastage is not the only concern to be focused on. But being practical, every step towards a positive change counts.

Not only when it comes to makeup, by making slight changes every other month in your daily life will be a positive step. Even by switching one product every month to an eco-friendly option, you will contribute a little. Be it switching to glass bottles, biodegradable options, or anything. Whichever works for you the best.

The idea is, instead of making all the sudden changes, a little step every other month will be practical, do-able, and lead to a positive change.

So, this was it for today. I hope you have found this post helpful.

Have a Good Day! 😇
