15 Aesthetic Indoor Things-to-do for Cold Days

indoor things to do for cold days

Who else loves this October-November part of the year? Temperature stars to drop and the vibe suddenly starts to feel all cozy. I ain’t talking about the hand-freezing winter days but that perfect kind of temperature with full of festive and Pinterest-y vibes.

I love spending cold winter days creating my own cozy little world at home. No agenda, no pressure, just me and whatever sounded appealing in the moment.

So I’ve put together this list of my favorite aesthetic indoor activities and things you can do for when it’s too cold to function outside. These aren’t your typical “10 productive things to do” suggestions—this is about making your space feel like a Pinterest board come to life and actually enjoying the slower pace that cold weather brings.

Whether you’re flying solo or have your best friend coming over, these ideas will make you hope for more cold days.

Your Cold Day Bucket List 🤓

1. Build Your Dream Reading Nook

I’ve had a folder on Pinterest called “reading nooks” for literally three years. You know what finally made me actually create one? A random cold afternoon when I didn’t feel like doing anything else.

Transform that one corner of your bedroom into the reading spot you’ve been pinning for months. Grab every throw pillow you own, drape some string lights or a lamp nearby, and stack your current reads within arm’s reach.

The key is layers—soft blankets, a chunky knit throw, maybe that faux fur pillow you got last winter. Light your favorite candle, make yourself a hot drink, and sink into a book that’s been sitting on your nightstand.

I personally bought myself a small wooden stall to sit over and sometimes I use it as my little tea table when I am sitting on the floor near my bed. I just love sitting on floors in night–reading, watching some YouTube, family talks. I love it!

2. Have a Solo Film Marathon with Intention

This isn’t just mindless scrolling through Netflix for an hour. Pick a theme that speaks to your current mood—coming-of-age films, cottagecore movies, or anything with Timothée Chalamet.

Create a cozy atmosphere by dimming the lights, lighting candles, and making actual snacks instead of eating chips (or you can do that too 😹).

Think homemade popcorn with real butter, hot chocolate with whipped cream, or those cookies you’ve been wanting to bake. Wrap yourself in your softest blanket and actually commit to the experience. Put your phone in another room if you have to.

3. Start That Journaling Practice You Keep Talking About

I’ve been journaling for five years now, and honestly? This time of year is my favorite because all the brands start dropping their new collections.

There’s something about getting a fresh journal when the weather turns cold that feels right. Like, it’s time for NEW! New chapters in life, new moments, new hopes…like a refresh.

If you’re just starting out, get one that makes you genuinely excited to write in it—something pretty that you’ll actually want to pick up. I started buying Journals from Odd Giraffe but later switched to Suppleroom.

Cold days are perfect for reflection because there’s nowhere else to be. Try different styles: morning pages where you brain dump everything, gratitude lists, or even just sticking in photos and ticket stubs to document your life.

Light a candle, make some tea, and write about where you are right now. You don’t need to be profound or poetic. Just honest.

4. Create a Skincare Spa Evening

Turn your bathroom into a spa without spending a fortune. If you’re a bath person, draw one with epsom salt, add a few drops of essential oil, and bring in some candles.

For my shower lovers, make it extra steamy and play some calming music—the steam opens up your pores just as well.

And if you’re team bucket (sometimes that’s just more relaxing), fill it with warm water, add some bath salts or oils, and take your time with it.

Put on a face mask during whichever ritual you choose—the steam actually helps it work better. After you’re done, do that whole skincare routine you usually rush through. Take your time with each step—cleanse, tone, serum, moisturize. Put on your softest pajamas and thick socks. Your skin will thank you, and you’ll feel like you just came back from an expensive spa day.

5. Bake Something That Makes Your Home Smell Amazing

My apartment has smelled like vanilla and bakery for three days straight, and I’m not even a little bit sorry about it. There’s nothing like the smell of something baking to make your space feel cozy. You don’t need to be a master baker—start simple with chocolate chip cookies, banana bread, or cinnamon rolls (if you like cinnamon 👀) from a tube if that’s your speed.

The process is just as good as the result. Put on a playlist, dance around your kitchen, lick the spoon. Take aesthetic photos of the flour-dusted counter for your story. Eat whatever you made while it’s still warm.

6. Paint or Draw (Even If You Think You Can’t)

Grab some watercolors, colored pencils, or even crayons and just play. You’re not trying to create a masterpiece for the Met—you’re spending time doing something with your hands that isn’t scrolling.

Paint abstract blobs in colors that make you happy. Try to draw your coffee mug. Copy a simple line drawing you saw on Pinterest. Put on music that matches the vibe you want to create. The point is to relax, not to stress about talent.

7. Rearrange Your Space for Better Energy

I do this at twice a month (or maybe more). Sometimes your room and storage just needs a refresh.

Move your bed to a different wall. Create a new corner for your plants. Rearrange your bookshelf by color (yes, it’s aesthetic and yes, you’ll forget where things are, but it looks so good). Light a candle or incense while you work. Put on a podcast or your favorite album.

You’ll be surprised how different your space feels with just a few changes, and you didn’t spend a dime.

8. Make Your Bed a Cloud

Flip your mattress and make your bed like you’re styling it for a magazine. Pull out new layer blankets, fluff pillows, add that throw you usually don’t bother with. Then, and this is important—climb right back in. There’s truly no better feeling than a freshly made bed after the end of the day.

9. Try a New Recipe That Feels Like a Hug

Cold days call for comfort food that takes time. Make soup from scratch. Try your hand at homemade pasta. Bake bread and watch it rise. Cook something your grandma used to make. The beauty is in the slow process—the chopping, stirring, tasting.

Put on some music or a podcast and enjoy the ritual of cooking something nourishing. Eat it in your coziest clothes with a good show on.

10. Digital Scrapbook Your Favorite Memories

Go through your camera roll and actually do something with those thousands of photos. Create albums on your phone, make a photo book online, or start a digital scrapbook.

Add little captions about where you were and how you felt. It’s like journaling but with pictures. You’ll rediscover moments you forgot about and probably text your friends like “remember when we did this??” It’s nostalgic in the best way.

I ain’t just saying this. I sorted all my photos and made more albums. Though I picked the wrong time. I literally was about to go take a shower, had my towel with me, I just picked up the phone and started doing it. God knows what thought came in my mind (the timing! 😹) but I did it!

11. Have a Playlist and Daydream Session

Make a new playlist for the season or the mood you want to cultivate. Actually listen to it—not as background noise while you do other things, but as the main event. Lie on your bed or floor, close your eyes, and let your mind wander.

Daydream about your future, replay your favorite memories, imagine scenarios that will probably never happen. It’s like meditation but more fun.

12. Get Festive with Your Decor

Cold days are perfect for bringing out those festive decorations and making your space feel magical.

Whether it’s Diwali, Christmas, or any other celebration coming up, there’s something so cozy about decorating indoors when it’s chilly outside. String up some fairy lights, arrange your diyas or candles, put up that garland you’ve been saving.

If Diwali’s approaching, this is your excuse to go all out with rangoli designs. Hang up paper lanterns, set up your festive centerpieces, or create a little corner dedicated to the season. Put on some festive music while you decorate, light some incense, and take your time making everything look exactly how you want it. The best part? You get to enjoy it for weeks, and every time you walk into your space, it’ll make you smile.

13. Create Your Vision Board for This Season

You don’t need to wait for January to set intentions. Get a poster board or use a digital tool like Canva. Even the new freeform app by Apple is good.

Cut out (or screenshot) images that represent how you want to feel, what you want to do, where you want to go. Include quotes that resonate, color palettes you love, aesthetic vibes you’re drawn to.

Don’t worry about being realistic—this is about dreaming. Put it somewhere you’ll see it every day.

14. Learn Something New From Your Couch

Pick that thing you’re always saying you want to learn and actually start.

  • Watch YouTube tutorials on how to crochet.
  • Take a free online course about something random that interests you.
  • Learn a few phrases in a new language. Practice calligraphy.
  • Try a new makeup technique.

The internet is full of free resources, and cold days give you the perfect excuse to dive in without feeling like you should be doing something else. 🍁

15. Host a One-Person Tea Party

This might sound silly, but hear me out. Brew a pot of your favorite tea (or try a new blend). Put it in an actual teapot if you have one. Use your nice mugs or teacups. Set up a little spread with whatever you have—cookies, fruit, cheese and crackers, chocolate. Sit somewhere comfortable with good lighting.

Read, journal, or just exist. It’s about treating yourself like you would treat a guest you want to impress. You deserve that same energy. 😌

The Art of Doing Nothing (But Making It Aesthetic)

Cold days are nature’s way of telling us to slow down. The Danes call it hygge—that feeling of cozy contentment and warmth—and cold days are made for it. While summer demands we be outside living our best lives, winter says it’s okay to turn inward.

These activities aren’t about productivity or self-improvement (though that’s a nice side effect). They’re about creating moments that feel good, look good, and remind you that taking care of yourself doesn’t have to be complicated.

33 Things to Let Go of Before the Year Ends

Wrapping my thoughts ✍🏻

Your cold day rituals don’t need to look like anyone else’s. Maybe you do one thing from this list, maybe you do seven, maybe you create your own version of cozy that’s uniquely yours.

The point is to be present with yourself, to create little pockets of peace in your space, and to remember that sometimes the best thing you can do is absolutely nothing in particular.

So next time it’s freezing outside and you have nowhere to be, don’t feel guilty about staying in.

Light those candles you’re saving for a special occasion (today is the special occasion), put on your comfiest clothes, and make your home the sanctuary you deserve. Your future self—warm, cozy, and completely content, will thank you. 🎀

I would love, love, lovee for you to save this, share this, and even comment your thoughts.

Until next time. Have a lovely day. 🍁
