The Sunday Reset Routine Ideas for When You’re Tired, Anxious, or Feeling Flat

sunday reset ideas

Sundays hit differently depending on the week you’ve had. Some weeks you’re just tired and need to be still. Other weeks your brain won’t stop and you need something to do with your hands. And sometimes you just feel a bit flat and uninspired and can’t even figure out what you need.

So instead of one generic list, I’ve split these by how the week actually left you feeling because what resets you when you’re exhausted is completely different to what helps when you’re anxious or just a bit meh.

If the week completely drained you

When you’re running on empty, the last thing you need is a to-do list masquerading as self-care.

What actually helps is doing something slow and low-effort that still makes you feel like you did something with your Sunday.

A proper family meal goes a long way. Cooking for people you love and actually sitting down together with no phones, no rushing quietly resets you in a way nothing else does. And I am sure you’ll agree with me on this. 🎀

Give yourself full permission to just watch something. Not half-watching while scrolling. A full on episode or a film and let yourself be properly absorbed in it. Resting without guilt feels tough, I know, but aren’t Sundays about that. 🥹

And if your space has been bothering you all week, a cluttered surface, a drawer that won’t close properly, sort just that one thing. Not a full clean, just the bit that’s been quietly annoying you. It’s amazing how much lighter everything feels when that one thing is dealt with. I ain’t just saying that. I have found myself cleaning out or decluttering a lot of times when my mind is buzzing and cleaning actually helps. 😌

If you had no time for yourself all week

This is the week where everyone needed something from you and by Friday you couldn’t remember the last time you did anything just because you wanted to. Sunday is where you take a bit of that back.

Do something creative with absolutely no goal attached. Try a recipe you saved months ago, rearrange your storage room, start something crafty, write a bit. It doesn’t matter what it is. The point is that you’re making something for yourself, not ticking something off for someone else. You’ll feel the shift in energy.

Get your thoughts out of your head and onto paper. Just a brain dump, whatever’s been circling around all week. Decisions you haven’t made, conversations you’re still processing, things you’re quietly worried about. Once it’s on the page, it stops taking up space in your head. Being someone who loves writing, I can say that journaling with actual pen & paper helps.

Been using this hair mask lately and it reversed months of damage in one wash. I always needed a pre-wash hair mask and this one is absolutely worth it. 🎀

Carve out a couple of hours that are genuinely just yours. Most of us give Sunday away to everyone and everything without realizing it, and then wonder why we still feel a bit depleted by Monday morning. I ain’t saying neglect your responsibilities but maybe for one day, ask your family to mix it up a little so that you can have a little calm throughout the day. Maybe order breakfast online, or have a brunch instead of two separate meals. Or a dining outside with ice cream later. 😌

If you’re feeling bored and a bit flat

Sometimes the week wasn’t hard, it was just… nothing. Repetitive. Same routine, same energy, nothing to look forward to.

That kind of flatness needs a different approach. You need something that sparks a bit of interest rather than more rest.

Change something in your space, even slightly. Move furniture around, switch things between rooms, reorganise how things are displayed. It genuinely makes your environment feel new, and your brain responds to that. Novelty doesn’t have to cost anything.

If you’re in that flatlined kind of mood, getting in the kitchen and trying something different actually helps more than you’d think. Cooking something new is genuinely one of the best things you can do when you’re feeling uninspired. Pick something you’ve had bookmarked for months and actually make it. Something you haven’t made before that keeps your hands and your head busy for a bit leaving you feeling oddly accomplished.

If Sunday anxiety is already setting in

It’s so easy to let Sunday evening feel like a countdown. You’re still in the weekend but your brain’s already Monday-ing.

And the honest truth is, no amount of scrolling or staying up late is going to stop Monday from coming so you might as well meet it feeling good.

Think back over your day first. What was actually good about it? The meal you had, the laugh with someone, the fact that you did something for yourself for once. Think about three things from your weekend that made you smile, even small ones. It sounds simple but it genuinely pulls your focus back to what you had rather than what’s ending. It’s really fulfilling.

And then — flip it. The week ahead isn’t just a list of obligations. It’s also when things actually happen. The plans you’ve been looking forward to, the progress on something you’ve been working on, the catch-up you’ve got in the diary, the things that can only move forward once the week begins. Getting my point? 😌

Make a little list of things to look forward to this week and if there’s nothing on it, add something.

Even something small. A nice lunch, a podcast you’ve been saving, trying that place you’ve been meaning to go to.

Give yourself something to walk towards, not just something to get through.

The week is coming either way. But you had a good Sunday, and there’s good stuff ahead too. Sometimes you just need to remind yourself of that.
