3 Reasons Why DIY Lashes is a BAD Idea
Nowadays, you can pretty much do everything at home yourself – gel nails, waxing, laser hair removal, the list is endless! But, can you apply lash extensions on yourself like professional lash artists do? Well, of course, you can, BUT you really shouldn’t.

We know it’s tempting. Lash extension appointments are pricey and if you want to keep it up, you’ll need to be going roughly every 2-3 weeks for infills, and sometimes that just isn’t feasible. The answer is to do it yourself at home, especially if you have an event coming up or you’re meeting up with friends, but you must resist!
Not sure why you shouldn’t be trying your hand at the DIY method? Keep reading!
Why DIY Lashes is a Bad Idea
1. Leave Glue to the Professionals
Did you know that glue for eyelash extensions has an ingredient called cyanoacrylate? It’s a bit of a mouthful, however, it’s one of the most important ingredients in a lash extension glue as it helps the glue to bond to the lash.

Cyanoacrylate-based glues are cured by humidity, the fumes of which love to travel to areas such as the eyes, nose, and throat. If you are applying lash extensions to yourself, your eyes will be open, meaning the fumes will cause redness, itchiness, and irritation at best, and you’re opening yourself up to the possibility of allergic reactions, too.
When you get your lashes done by a lash technician your eyes are closed, which means your eyes are more protected. You should NEVER apply for lash extensions on open eyes.
2. Don’t Get Stuck
If you’re not a professional, glue and multiple lashes can become a nightmare. Have you ever used a clumpy mascara and you end up with spider eyes? Well, the same look can happen if you accidentally glue lashes together!
Attaching lash extensions to your own lashes while looking at a mirror is a nearly impossible task for proper isolation. You are likely to glue several natural lashes together, and the result is not fun to deal with.

Now, how will your eyes tackle natural lashes that are glued together, but grow at a different speed? It will hurt badly. But the pain is not the worst part. In the long term, this kind of improper application can and will force your natural lashes to fall out and leave a permanent scar or bald spot in your lash line.
3. Underwhelming Results

Lash artists spend thousands on training (that’s $$$s AND hours!) so that they can produce amazing lash sets. They are experienced in choosing which lashes are suitable for your natural lashes, which glue is best, and how to apply the lashes to shape your eyes perfectly. At the end of the day, that’s why you go to a professional lash technician because you know the results are going to be incredible and long-lasting!
We’re sure most of you know what it’s like to attempt a make up look following a YouTube or Instagram tutorial, and more often than not, the look we end up with is not quite the same as we imagined!
In conclusion…
It is better to be safe than sorry. The last thing you want to deal with right now is swollen eyes, chemical burns, painful lashes or allergic reactions as a result of doing it yourself. Leave it to the professionals and keep your eyes looking and feeling as beautiful AND as healthy as ever!
