The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Light Cleansing Oil – Review

I got my hands on The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Light Cleansing Oil through one of their combo offers and schemes which they keep on running on Nykaa. Because I trust The Face Shop and I loved their Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser, I decided to give this a try without having any kind of doubt.

I got to know about Cleansing Oils when the Korean Beauty Brands such as The Face Shop and Innisfree introduced them here in India. I got super excited to see how exactly cleansing oil works and how they are useful in your skincare or makeup routine. Are they more of a general facial cleanser or makeup remover? I wanted to know and I am glad I tried it.

I have been using The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Light Cleansing Oil for months now and it has become a part of my makeup removal routine now. I will be sharing my experience, the best way I use it, and my review of Rice Water Bright Cleansing Oil.

How to Use

Apply to dry skin, massaging in a circular motion to dissolve makeup. Rinse with lukewarm water or wash off with foam cleanser.  

Well, that’s what the product says. But I use it on the wet face and it works way better and effectively than using it on the dry face.    

Review – The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Light Cleansing Oil

My Skin Type: Combination to Oily, Dry in Winters, Sensitive, and Acne-Prone Skin.

Packaging: It comes in a pump bottle but what I have is a mini version of it which I received in a limited edition combo kit. 

Fragrance: It has a similar fragrance that all the Rice Water Bright Products have. I have tried Rice Water Bright Makeup Remover and it had a similar fragrance as well that is fresh and flower yet mild and not bothersome.

My Experience

I first used it as how instructed, that is, applying on the dry face, massaging well to melt off the makeup and then washing it off with lukewarm water. 

1. Doesn’t Work on Dry Face as Directed (Need to Wet your Face First)

I did the same but to be honest, the oil got vanished or sort of absorbed when I applied on the dry skin. Instead of melting my makeup, the oil went into my skin like a skincare product and later when I washed my face with water, I didn’t see much of the result. Hence, using it on the dry face didn’t do anything for me.

2. Works Effectively on Wet Face – Melts Off Makeup within Seconds

Next, while doing swatches for my review posts, I decided to use Rice Water Bright Cleansing Oil to wash off the swatches from my hand. I wet my hand and massaged the area with this oil and what I see is all the swatches are melted in a blink of an eye. I washed my hand with water and it was all gone. I was like WHAT?! I was surprised to see how fast and smoothly it removed the swatches without any rubbing.

I decided to use the Rice Water Bright Cleansing Oil a similar way on a full face of makeup the way I used it on my hand that is, on the wet skin.

3. Easy to Use – Gentle on Eyes – No use of Cotton Required

I was having a full face of makeup, I wet my face like we do when we wash our face with a face wash, I took some amount of the Light Cleansing Oil onto my palm and started gently massaging my face with it like we do with our face wash, and in a second all off my makeup was melted away. I simply washed my face with water then, to take it all off and that’s it. All of my makeup was gone. Even the waterproof mascara and liquid lipstick.

Even though it is a light cleansing oil and didn’t leave any residue behind, but I always do a double cleansing when I take off my makeup. No matter what makeup remover I use, I follow it up with a foaming cleanser.

Next, I washed my face with The Face Shop Jeju Pore Cleansing Foam and there it was, a fresh clean face without any rubbing or tugging.

Not just for taking off the makeup, It works great as a double-cleanser. The oil cleanser will pull-out and wash off the dust and impurities from the skin and the second cleanse with a foaming cleanser will complete the double-cleanse.

Even though with the Pore Cleansers such as The Face Shop Jeju Pore Cleanser or Innisfree Pore Cleansing Foam, you won’t need any double-cleansing method to get rid of all the dirt. Hence, I personally only use it as my makeup remover.

4. For All Skin Types – No Skin Irritation

I regularly used it and saw no sign of any irritation. It didn’t clog pores and caused no breakouts. It turned out an effective and environment-friendly makeup remover. Environment-friendly in a way that you won’t need cotton rounds or makeup remover wipes every time you need to remove your makeup.    Makeup Removing wipes is literally causing a lot of blockages and damage to the environment these days. It is high time to switch to the alternatives for environment-friendly makeup removal.  

Summing up…

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Light Cleansing Oil is the most effective and easy to use makeup remover. Simply apply and maddage on your wet face and it will melt off your makeup. Wash it off with water and follow it up with a foaming cleanser and done. Your full-face of makeup is off even the waterproof one. It is light and doesn’t leave any residue behind. Doesn’t cloggs pores and causes no irritation.
