30 Small Things You Can Do to Live More Intentionally

Small things carry more than we give them credit for. They carry presence. They carry gratitude. They carry the true essence. They carry this gentle, almost sacred reminder that life right now is worth paying attention to. And those small habits or things I feel are the ones that add to our intentional living routine.
In 24 hours, we move through dozens of moments that are quietly, genuinely beautiful. And most of them slip by completely unnoticed. Life is loud and full and always moving, and nobody ever taught us to slow down for the small things.
Luckily, spirituality held my hands and started teaching me the meaning of life, and the real way to living it 🎀
And ever since I started noticing things around me, I feel like Universe is carrying me in a special boat. 🥹 Things just work out when you pay attention to it.
So here are 30 small things that I feel can really make you feel calmer in everyday tiny moments. 🎀
Morning Moments
1. Say a small prayer before the day begins. I always pray Krishna to be with me, guide me throughout the day. Pray to the higher power right after you wakeup and you’ll see the change slowly. Before the phone, before your mind starts thinking, before anything. It takes fifteen seconds but made a huge difference in my life. I know the day will have ups and down but at least that very moment gives me positivity to begin with.
2. The morning light looks different every single day, and we never look at it. Some mornings it’s golden. Some mornings it’s that quiet grey. Sometimes in winter there’s this particular blue before the sun fully rises that I genuinely don’t have words for. Pay attention to rays and natural lighting after you wake up and you’ll start loving those moments. ☺️
3. Sit with your morning drink without any gadget. I know you have probably read this like a zillion times but this does makes a difference. That just makes it real. Morning routine without gadgets. Just you and your chai or coffee, looking out a window, letting your brain ease into the day slowly. I know this sounds small. But the mornings I do this feel genuinely different from the ones I don’t or rush into stuff. The notifications will still be there. That quiet won’t.
4. Light a candle as a part of your morning, everyday. I am probably saying this because I am in so much love with Candles but this one small habit does adds coziness to my morning routine. I always go for soy wax candles and got multiple scented candles. 🥹 Some really aligns well with morning vibes while some, like coffee ones, I burn them in evening. Doing these small things that aren’t always related to productivity really helps my mind to slow down and not just go through the day on autopilot.
5. Stretch before you do anything else. Make it an everyday habit. 🎀 Just that long instinctive stretch the moment you wake up. The kind where your whole spine opens up and for a second everything loosens. Every cat and dog on the planet does this before they do anything. We’re the only ones who skip it. Ever since I have started doing these more frequently with focused breathing, I have been feeling way more calm. 😌 I think the one I do is the one I read in the book ikigai.
Moving Through Your Day
6. Re-read a conversation that made you feel loved. Pull up an old text thread, a voice note, something that reminded you someone sees you. A message you saved because you felt like doing so in that very moment. Most of us have more evidence of being loved than we remember to look at.
My Personal Favourites
7. Eat one meal without anything else running in the background. Do not scroll while eating. Don’t watch any episode for this meal. Just the food. I’m not going to pretend I do this every time. But actually being present in that moment is something. I mean… all the hustle and stress we go through is to have food on our plates right? And yet, we hardly are fully present in that moment. So yes, food without any distraction are one of the things that I personally feel can help you feel blessed and grateful. 🥹
8. Walk somewhere with nothing in your ears. Leave AirPods at home and just wander a little in your society garden. Just you and whatever is actually around you. You start noticing things you’ve walked past a hundred times. I for sure have. 😌
9. Your home has a sound — most of us have never actually listened to it. The hum of the refrigerator. The particular creak of one specific floorboard. The slow sound of a fan. Go quiet enough to hear it sometime. It feels like noticing home for the first time.
10. Stop talking yourself out of wanting small beautiful things. That mug. That little plant. That book you keep seeing and putting back. We’re so quick to dismiss our own small desires, too frivolous, don’t need it. But wanting small beauty for yourself doesn’t need to be justified or earned. It’s just allowed.
Nature & Outdoors
11. Next time you step outside, actually feel the air for a second. Cold, warm, that particular damp softness right before rain. There is so much sensation available in one single moment outside and we almost always bypass it completely. Those who feel it know what I am talking about.
12. Put your hand on a tree sometime. We move through the natural world every day without ever actually touching it. Thirty seconds of contact with something living and rooted — just your palm flat against bark does something that is hard to explain but very real. Those energies do something that I really can not put in words. 🎀
13. Go outside right after it rains. The smell alone. Everything looks washed and bright and new, and there’s this particular quiet that follows rain, right? 😌 We mostly stay inside for this. We really, really shouldn’t.
14. Watch a sunset all the way to the end at least once this week. I know living in apartments has made it difficult to watch the nature but if you can, please do. 🥹 Witnessing the end of a day has a way of making you feel like you were actually in it. Like you showed up for the closing.
15. Let something in nature genuinely surprise you. A spider web with dew on it. New leaves in that specific bright green of early spring. A bird being absolutely close on your balcony railing. It’s happening every single day and we’re usually too busy to catch it. Slow down for it sometimes.
Faith & Gratitude
16. When something good happens, say thank you out loud. The parking spot that appeared, the message that came at exactly the right time, the day that turned out better than you thought. Spoken gratitude feels different. More like you noticed God’s hand in it. 😌
17. Write down the one thing you’ve been carrying and haven’t put down. Everyone of us is somewhere going through some moments where things are just not working out. Or maybe a guilt. Or literally anything that is feeling emotionally heavy. Write it. I ain’t saying let it go but writing it, does helps guys.
18. Start a “beautiful things” note on your phone. With digital notes, you can even capture the photos. The steam that rose from your mug this morning. The sound of your house when everyone’s finally asleep. Your child’s handwriting. Your pet sleeping a super cute position. A song that felt like it knew something. These things evaporate if you don’t catch them. Writing them down is how you keep them. I feel like this is the real core of intentional living for me. Just noticing what’s good before it quietly disappears.
19. Look up what phase the moon is in tonight. You don’t have to do anything with it. Just try this 🙈 oh it’s a full moon, it’s waxing right now — that creates this quiet sense of being connected to something so much bigger. I too have moon widget added to my home screen on my phone. We live under this extraordinary thing and paying attention to it feels really calming. 🎀
20. Let yourself actually cry when something moves you. We hold so much in. There’s always something else to do, someone who needs us to be okay. But letting a moment actually land in your body instead of managing it away? That is what a full, spiritually present life feels like. That is not weakness.
Feeling Down for No Reason? Here’s How to Reset Your Mood
Family & People
21. One meal this week, together, phones in another room. The conversations that happen when nobody has anywhere else to be are so different. People say things they wouldn’t say otherwise. You remember, for a little while, who you’re doing all of this for.
22. Ask someone you love something you actually don’t know the answer to. Something real — what’s been sitting on them lately, what they’re quietly looking forward to. And then just listen. Without composing your response while they’re still talking. The people we love most are often the ones we ask the least of because we think we already know. We usually know less than we think.
23. Tell them the specific thing. I love the way you laugh at your own jokes before you even finish telling them. There’s a difference between I love you and I see you, specifically, and I’ve been paying attention. The second one lands somewhere the first can’t always reach.
24. Leave something small for them to find. A note in a lunchbox. A funny drawing on the bathroom mirror in the morning. A little arrangement on the breakfast table just because. These things take two minutes and cost nothing and — I genuinely believe this, they are what people carry with them for the rest of their lives. Not the big gestures. These tiny ones.
25. Have one conversation this week where you’re fully, actually there. Just receiving what the other person is giving you. Not waiting for your turn. Full attention is one of the rarest things you can offer someone. And they always feel when they have it.
Just For You
26. Do one small thing for your space that has zero practical purpose. A branch from outside in a glass of water on your windowsill. Moving your stuff around into something that pleases you. Something small you’ll catch and smile at when you walk past it. I pasted a random sticker on a door and noted a date there and it’s been more 4 years to that date. 😹
27. Read something someone took real care writing. Especially those tiny little cards you get with your orders. These days business aren’t just businesses. Those guys put their heart and soul into it. They often send a little card and we hardly read them. Make their work feel special by giving a minute to their writing. 😌
28. The next time you feel genuinely happy — notice where you feel it in your body. We’re so practiced at mapping discomfort. Joy deserves mapping too. Where does it live — your chest, your shoulders, your face? What does it do to your breathing? It’s worth knowing. It’s worth having it as something you can actually recognize when it arrives.
29. Wear something that has a memory attached to it on an ordinary day. A pair of socks with memories. The dress from a trip that changed something in you. A scarf someone who loves you gave you. Objects carry stories. Bringing them into a regular Tuesday makes that Tuesday feel quietly layered. Like more than just a Tuesday.
Evening Wind-Down
30. Take one breath before dinner just to actually arrive at the table. A small pause between the rush of getting food ready and actually being together at it. A quiet signal to yourself and everyone around it that this — this meal, these people, right now is what we’re here for. Even a small prayer of gratitude for the meal. Rituals are just pauses we give ourselves permission to take. This one is worth taking every day.
31. Cook something with love in it, not just efficiency. Slow down and make something with real care behind it. For your family, for yourself. The people we feed feel the difference even when they can’t name it. Energies transmits through food. I really believe that.
32. Tidy one small thing at the end of the day. Cushions straightened. Kitchen wiped down. Cleaning those cat hairs from your t-shirt. Just a small, physical act of closing the day. For me personally it feels like — this is done now. I can rest. It sounds simple. It genuinely helps.
33. Before you sleep, find one moment from today that was good and just hold it. Probably food or coffee that was perfect, the laugh that came out of nowhere, a particular scene on TV. Hold it for a few seconds before you let the day go. Your last thought before sleep matters.
34. Notice, before you close your eyes, that you made it through the day. All the small things that held. The little mercies you probably didn’t clock. The ways love showed up in ordinary forms. Just notice. All the way through. That is not nothing guys. That means a lot. ✍🏻

We’re all waiting for life to feel beautiful someday, when it already is. Right now, in the ordinary, unglamorous middle of it.
