Why Cruelty-Free Skincare is the Future
If you are an animal lover who cares about animal rights and the treatment of animals in the beauty industry, then you’ve probably already heard the term “cruelty-free”.
From beauty bloggers who often mention it in their posts and videos to makeup and skincare companies which sometimes print it on their products, this phrase has been used quite a lot over the last few years.
What does “cruelty-free” actually mean? In short, it simply means that the ingredients, the formulation, as well as the finished product, weren’t tested on animals.
When being tested in laboratories, animals are kept in small cages where they are blinded, maimed, tortured and barely fed. These animals are kept in unhygienic conditions where they are observed for side effects and ultimately killed when the testing is complete. This is completely unethical and exactly the reason why such barbaric practices need to come to an end.
Why Cruelty-Free Skincare Is the Future
Supporting cruelty-free products is the only way to ensure you are not participating in the unfair treatment of animals. After all, why would anyone feel the need to test toxic substances when there are innumerable harmless, natural and eco-friendly ingredients available that don’t require any form of inhumane testing?
For meeting regulations and product standards, cruelty-free companies opt for in-vitro testing, cultured cell tissues as well as computer models, among other forms of scientific research that have become available to us with the advancement of technology.
A lot of governments around the world have already banned animal testing for finished products and ingredients. The European Union, Norway, Switzerland, Israel, India, South Korea, and New Zealand have all outlawed testing on animals, which only goes to show exactly how harmful and unethical this practice truly is.
Thankfully, we, as consumers, have the complete power to change the market, as well as the beauty industry.
By only buying cruelty-free and vegan products, not only do we minimize the suffering of animals, but we also reduce waste and positively contribute to the environment, as these products are usually also organic and eco-friendly.
When we act as responsible consumers, we alone can eliminate the need for inhumane practices and the damaging effects of toxic chemicals and overconsumption.
Why Cruelty-Free Skincare is the Future
That is exactly why we should only invest in certified cruelty-free brands, such as Glossier and Dermalogica, or even brands like Esmi that are both cruelty-free and entirely vegan, in order to help save the living world around us.
Even though it became illegal to sell products that have been tested on animals in the EU, some companies have managed to get away with false claims, as their final product might not have been tested on animals, but some of their raw ingredients have, or they have hired third parties to test on animals on their behalf.
Another thing to be wary of is the fact that, while some companies may be cruelty-free in theory, they still decide to sell their products in China, where animal testing is required by law for all foreign cosmetics.
How to Ensure if a Product is Cruelty-Free?
While a quick Google search or a close look at the product label could probably provide you with enough information, the best idea would be to only opt for products with certified bunny logos, as they are the fastest and easiest way to ensure a product is actually cruelty-free.
Apart from putting a stop to the torture of animals, cruelty-free tests are actually better for us, as they are faster, much more reliable, and they meet a higher standard than animals tests do.
Besides reducing waste and doing our small part to help save our planet, being mindful of our purchases will also save us money in the long haul.
Since a lot of cruelty-free products are also organic and completely natural, they are better for our skin as well, as they cleanse, soothe and soften our complexion in a completely safe and harmless manner.
So, if you want to prioritize your health and your wellbeing, as well as the environment, cruelty-free is always the best way to go.
The way you choose to spend your money reflects your interests, your values, and your beliefs. So, instead of spending your hard-earned money to boost the profits of greedy, uncaring corporations, opt for certified cruelty-free brands that have truly made a genuine commitment to ending the cruelty and inhumanity of animal testing.
Remember, you have the power to change everything, so start supporting ethical companies and help make the world we live in a better place for us all.
